REVOLUTIONARY PP / PS SHEETS CONCEPT
NEOCELL® is a thermoformable and breakable co-extruded 3-layer sheet made of PS (polysty-rene) or PP (polypropylene) with a gas-injected middle layer and optional strengthened external layers. These contain mineral fillers to ameliorate mechanical properties of the final product. It is available by natural, white or bi-coloured sheets. The packaging concept has been designed for safe and functional product applications with a smooth haptic. It is flexible and modular, al-lowing variable density by injecting the necessary amount of gas needed while maintaining the overall product’s functionality.
Coveris’ NEOCELL® PP+ has opened a new chap-ter with its groundbreaking and innovative PS-free packaging solution for all kinds of Form-Fill-Seal (FFS) applications in the Dairy industry. The latest development of the NEOCELL® concept consti-tutes the first thermoformed and breakable PP sheet in the FFS industry which is dominated by PS packagings. The PP material, a thermoplastic polymer, guarantees the same output and effi-ciency as PS but assures even higher mechanical and heat resistant properties, as well as better stress cracking durability (well adapted for fat dairy products).

KEY FACTS OF THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
Compared to similar compact sheets, a weight reduc-tion of up to 26% can be achieved for PP without the use of chemical foaming agents (up to 25% for PS). Moreo-ver, variable density regulation by injecting the optimal amount of gas generates material savings. Thus, Coveris provides customers an ecological and resource-saving packaging solution, significantly improving the overall cost-effectiveness.
