Neighborly News May 2021 From the Desk of Val Schlicht, Food & Nutrition Director Spring greetings from Food and Nutrition! By the time you read this we will have started our five-week rotation for our spring and summer menu. Some of the new recipes we will be trying are: Tuscan Chicken with Pasta, Honey Bourbon BBQ Ribs, Sweet and Sassy Pork Burger and much more. We sampled a few of our menu items with residents and got many thumbs up, so thank you for being willing to play a part in menu selection. I will continue to do that throughout the this menu rotation. Dont worry, pizza will remain on the menu this summer! Over the next few months, we have some special things up our sleeves to keep meals fun and exciting, so stay tuned! As always, we encourage ALL residents to come to the dining rooms for meals as we do not want anyone to miss out on the fun and socialization. Most importantly, it is the best opportunity for us to get to know you better and for you to share your likes and dislikes. We also want to encourage residents to speak up! We love to hear your feedback and ideas. Ask for me, and I will absolutely visit with you! We are not always able to accommodate all requests, but will try our very best to meet your needs and wants within your diet order guidelines. Thank you for letting us serve you. www.facebook.com/goodneighborsociety Search: Good Neighbor Society Come See Our New Birds-They Will Sing A Song For You Good Neighbor Homes birds flew southfor the winter on November 24. 11 new birds were welcomed on April 20. Resident Profile — Ruth Pasko Our highlighted resident for May is Ruth Pasko. Ruth was born November 13, 1926, in Green Bay, WI. She graduated from Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac, WI, in 1944. Ruth and her husband, Jack, grew up attending First Baptist Church in Fond du

Lac together. They began dating in high school and wrote faithfully to each other while Jack served in WWII. They married after the war on June 17, 1946. Ruth and Jack raised four children during their 45 years of marriage: Pastor Kurt, Peggy (dec.), Kent, and Kerry. They have eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ruth was a switchboard operator at Sunbeam Corporation in Chicago. She was also a homemaker and a hotel receptionist at the Green Lake Conference Center before her retirement in 1988. Ruth is a lifelong Baptist, and Jack was a Baptist minister. She served on the board of the American Baptist Churches USA, was a member of the Board of Education Ministries, and volunteered at Camden Clark Hospital in WV. Ruth and her sister, Doris, traveled the world together after their husbands passed away. Highlights of the sisters’ travels include visiting Europe, the Mediterranean, and Egypt.

Ruth enjoys her plate and spoon collections, reading mysteries, doing word puzzles, and visiting with family and friends. She also enjoys walking, listening to piano music, and attending worship services with her son, Pastor Kurt. Ruth loves the staff that cares for her along. She also loves socializing, so stop by and say hello! Congratulations Ruth!

Employee Recognition - Cody Myers Cody started with the dietary department on June 15, 2020. When Cody started, he was shy and not comfortable visiting with residents here at Good Neighbor Home. Now you can find Cody chatting it up with various residents while serving their meals. Cody is quick to laugh, tell a funny story, and is always willing to learn a new task. He pays close attention to detail and has a memory like no other. We are incredibly lucky to have him on our team and can’t think of anyone more deserving for Employee of the Month. Thank you Cody!
