Neck pain, one of the little buggers among the lublic. Almost everyone have it at some point in

their lives. I can almost hear the uh-huh from people reading this now. This is completely true not

only for people who has to work in awkward positions but also for people (believe it or not) has to

    sit all day long!

Lets talk a little about the neck. It is one of the most sensitive area in the body. some of thechiropractors I know of refused to go anywhere near it. Neck pain has been emphasized a lot

back when I was training in the college because it could be an indication of other more serious

problem. Now I am going to be honest here and Im not trying to cause any panic but it is my job

to increase public awareness neck pain can be an indication of stroke-in-progress especially if it

    comes with:

Severe headaches that have never happened before.

    Blurred speech.

    Blurred visions.

    Clumsiness. Spams.

    etc.

Now that Ive mentioned some red flags, lets get to some simple explanations about why it

happens. The joints in the neck are some of the most densely innervated areas, meaning there

are a lot of sensitive nerves around it. It should be no surprise that the neck is also of the most

arousing area during moments of intimacy. The neck is also an attachments ares for muscles

that comes from the shoulders and also of those that goes up the head.

From my experience, neck pain is usually due to poor sitting postures, leading to strainedmuscles that have been screaming for attention for the longest time only to get ignored. It often

starts with shoulder tightness and stiffness before causing pain, leadin to neck pain and then

headaches. Nerve interference is another of the big cause as a result of the demands of lives as

we bull-dozed through all the hustle and bustle. However, heres the good news, among the

cases that I have managed, none of them cant be handled effectively with adjustments,

    dry-deeling and trigger points work.

Ill provide an example. I worked with Evon (name has been changed for privacy purpose) when

she came in to see me after having been to ther orthodoyx doctors and chinese doctors who did

cupping (no judgements here) but none has provide long-term relief. Her complaint of neck pain

and shoulder pain started when she was 16 years old. It began when started playing computer

games for 8 hours a day! Now, she has to sit in front of the screen for her school assignments

and studies which has been troublesome as she can hardly focused with the neck and shoulder

    pain.

During the spinal check, she had a few subluxation ( nerve interference ) in the neck and

thoracic spines, and her upper shoulder muscles were rock solid. She complained that the pain

often happened when she was sitting. So I got her to show me her sitting postures which she

sheepishly did. It was one of the classic, faulty sitting postures! Arched back, rounded shoulders,

    forwack head carriage!

One of the reason why this is a big no-no is that when your head moves forward, it increases the

tension on the upper back muscles, namely the thoracic erector spinae, splenius capitis andlevator scapulae. As a result, your upper back muscles and neck muscles have to work twice as

hard to keep your neck up, literally! And in order to keep your face from dropping, the suboccipital

muscles have to keep pulling. Imagine your muscles keep doing this on a regular basis.

Eventually, it got used to it but at a price, it created knots and tension, referring pain and causing

    chaos, not to mention subluxation.

So I began to work with her on a regular basis. From experience, guests usually comes in after

their body started to scream. Why do we do this to ourselves? We immediately send our car to

the garage on the first strange sound we heard, we immediately plucked that hair that looks off

on the eye-brow. Some might say its because its only a small problem. But where does bigproblem comes from? They started from small and when it becomes serious, people spent

millions on surgeries and medication. All costs a lot more than if they were to give themselves a

little more love in the first place.

Evon came in for twice a week initially, focusing on trigger points on the shoulder and at the base

of the skull. She admitted to having some regular headaches. Her home exercises comprised of

simple neck strecthes, Brugger breaks and holding B10 and GB20 which is at the base of the

skull. In Chinese acupunture, these were known as Heavenly Pillars and Wind Pond which helps

with neck pain and headache and conincidentally, emotional distress and depression.

Coincidentally these were known to trigger points sites for muscles mentioned.

Now heres what everyone can do. Find the two depressions at the back of your neck just below

the skull. Hold the two points with your fingers for two minutes while deep breathing can help with

neck pain and ease off headaches in some cases.

Evon began to see miracles after the second week. She was so excited that her shoulders

which has always been tensed began to relax and drop when she looked at herself in the mirror.

Her neck pain has subsided so much so that she can put away the medication ( Note I do not

advocate this practice). Moreover, the nigging headaches hasnt return ever since. She continue

to see me once a month for her regular tuning and check-up while keeping up with her regime.

She has now graduated with a master degree in Business.
