FLEXIBILITY AND CREATIVITY WITHIN THE EDUCATION ENVIRONMENTAdvancing methods of teaching, whether for pupils, students or education professionals, is a central

theme within the education sector, where the curriculum is becoming ever more extensive and complex,

with an ever growing international dimension and where there is an increasing deluge of sensory

stimulation. The increasing digitalisation of our age is certainly not bypassing the education sector:

PCs, projectors and public displays are already a central part of the lessons and lectures process in most

of our education facilities and also enable an ideal preparation for the world of work.

One of the great challenges for teachers or lecturers in a

media-flooded world is to be able to interest pupils and students

in learning new materials and to establish an appropriate

learning style. This is difficult to achieve with only outmoded

OHP slides, traditional chalkboards or flip-charts. To achieve

optimal deployment and exploitation, its essential to have an

understanding of the latest and ever-changing technologies so

as to make an informed choice, whilst also adopting an

appropriately multi-layered approach. A good interplay between

technology and teaching methods can greatly increase the

motivation to learn, and also help achieve the best transfer of

the knowledge base of a curriculum.

    Bringing learning to life increasing

    achievement

Educational technologies are widely deployed and used by

teachers, lecturers and instructors, as well as by pupils,

students and people on training courses. NEC Display Solutions

has a product portfolio that is perfectly aligned to the educa-

tion sector, allowing learning content to be perfectly taught,

whilst also promoting an appropriate network of communication:

from portable and fixed projectors, to large-format LCD public

displays and plasma displays, through to desktop LCDs.

Modern educational facilities are increasingly at the forefront

of adoption of innovative presentation and training technologies.

These range from the best possible multimedia and audio-

visual equipment for presentations in the classroom, through

to video conferencing, virtual classrooms, electronic

discussion and bulletin boards as well as e-learning strategies

    and their associated modalities.

Visual concepts from a one-stop provider

Multimedia technologies in the education sector can help

to inform and make presentations, as well as to help teach,

learn and enable people to successfully communicate with

one another. Its not just excellent products and technologies

that are essential, but perhaps more importantly what is

required is a perfectly co-ordinated network comprising planning,

installation and quality of service. NEC Display Solutions

company culture is characterised by consistent quality and

innovation, as well as a clearly positioned and wide product

portfolio. But it doesnt only offer an unbeatable range of

targeted and application-oriented solutions, but also an excellent

The NEC NP400/NP500/NP600 Allround Desktop Projectors

provide razor-sharp images and videos. Successors to the

extremely successful VT595/VT695/VT700 models, they have

been specially further optimised and improved for deployment

in the education sector. For example, the new models recognise

whether a video or computer signal has been connected, and automatically switch themselves off after a certain time

if no signal is present. Their increased energy efficiency

therefore makes an active contribution towards protecting the

    environment.

Just like the NP100 and NP200 Allround Mobile Projectors,

the portable projectors can be transported between different

rooms with the minimum of effort and quickly restarted

THE MOST UP-TO-DATE PRESENTATION TECHNOLOGIESNEC projectors, from portable devices through to fixed installed models, impress with their superior

picture quality, extremely quiet operation, exceedingly high reliability and excellent cost-performance

ratio. They are an important segment of NEC Display Solutions product portfolio and are equally subject

to NECs stringent requirements for uncompromising product quality and leading innovative technology.

proving particularly suited for schools, smaller lecture theatres

    and classrooms.

Many useful features include, for example, the high brightness

of the projectors that guarantees high contrast and outstanding

picture quality even under difficult lighting conditions such

as for daylight or indirect lighting. The integrated wall colour

correction function which allows true-colour representation of

projected images on different projection surfaces, simply achieved

at the press of a button, or automatic geometric correction

for evening out an image on an irregular display surface.

    Secure investments

Various security functions, such as password protection,

locking the housing control panel, as well as a Kensington Lockconnection, all offer the maximum of security. The possibility

of displaying a user-defined and individualised start-up logo

also provides additional protection against illegitimate access

and unauthorised use, since the logo can only be changed or

    deleted using your own password.

Together with integrated stereo loudspeakers of up to 2 x 5 W,

    the NEC NP1150/NP2150/NP3150/NP3150W Allround

Installation Projectors provide a unique combination of sound

and image to achieve the perfect audio-visual presentationof teaching material and thus greatly increase and engage

    students attention.

Extensive security systems, which protect against theft and

unauthorised use, are also amongst the key features of

NECs Allround Installation Projectors. This aspect is of rising

importance as the number of users increases and deploy-

ment areas become ever more public.

All functions can also be simply and easily operated using the

remote control unit. In addition, due to its built-in laser pointer

and mouse receiver, the remote control can also be used as

    a practical aid for presentations.

    Windows Vista network projectors

The Windows Vista NP1150/NP2150/NP3150 and NP3151W

network projectors can be simply Plug & Play connected toa W-LAN network. Windows Vista automatically recognises the

projectors in a wireless network and allows them to connect

to it using the Windows Network Projector function

additional software and administrator rights are not required.

The Remote Desktop function allows projectors, which

have a USB mouse or keyboard connected, to have access

over the network to a remotely set-up PC. This means, for

example, that the cost of an additional PC in a classroomcould be saved.

    Projection WITHOUT keystonecorrection

    Projection WITH keystonecorrection

With their robust construction, user-friendliness as well as

a large variety of connection possibilities, NEC projectors provide

excellent functionality with an outstanding cost-performance

ratio and back this up with enhanced service guarantees.

Often, these are all deciding factors that can make a limited

    budget go further.

    Highly reliable installations

Due to brightness of up to 5,000 ANSI lumens, as well as

high resolution and impressive degrees of contrast, NEC

installation projectors are ideal for fixed installations in larger

educational facilities and lecture rooms, such as those in

universities. They have also been equally optimised for ceiling

as well as desktop installation. With five optional, interchange-able objective lenses in addition to the standard lens, the

optimum lens can be adopted for the most diverse of deploy-

ment locations and projection distances. The interchange-

able lenses are handy to use and can be exchanged with only

a simple twist, without any special tools.

Even for the most difficult of lighting environments as well

as in normal daylight conditions, outstanding and distortion-freeimage quality is ensured by wall colour correction that

renders optimal colour reproduction, the lens shift function that

allows distortion-free shifting of the image around the projection

surface, and keystone correction of up to +/- 40 to even out

distortions in both horizontal and vertical directions.

    Centrally controlled interaction

Using the free Image Express Utility (IEU) software as well as

the PC control utility, installed projectors can be centrally

controlled over the network and checked-up on. Furthermore,

its also possible to transfer presentation files and display them

on all available networked projectors and PC screens. Various

moderator modes allow, as appropriate, networked participants

to be connected into the presentations or teaching materials.

In Training mode, the networked student/pupil participants can

be switched into Live mode by the instructor, so as to actively

take part in a presentation or exchange information with one

another using Chat mode. Meeting mode allows every participant

to become an individual presenter, and also has a function

that creates meeting reports in the form of screenshots or

short notes. These can be called up again at any time on any

of the PCs. Thus this represents the best possible basis for the

most up-to-date of training methods and is also a highly

motivating experience for those teaching and being taught.

    A variety of cinema-quality reproductions

Particularly in large spaces and auditoriums, its often difficult

to maintain the attention of listeners for long time spans and

to present material in an appropriately varied and engaging

manner avoiding the feelings of drowsiness that might otherwise

arise. Thanks to HQV (Hollywood Quality Video) technology,

the Windows Vista NP1150/NP2150/NP3150 and NP3151W

network projectors achieve a cinematic quality to their image

projection. It guarantees pin-sharp image reproduction for

presentations with static through to multimedia content, and

grabs the attention of the viewers even for larger projection

distances or in extensive surroundings and spaces.

By exploiting the possibility of projecting two picture signalsat the same time, particular presentation effects such as

Picture-In-Picture (PIP) or Side-By-Side (SBS) viewing can be

achieved. The PIP mode allows a main picture to be shown

with an overlying smaller picture, whilst the SBS function allows

two equal-sized images to be displayed alongside each other.

    No glare, no shadow

With its NEC-patented mirror system, the NEC WT610 PremiumShort-Throw Projector achieves an unbeatable, ultra-short

projection distance that avoids both the presenter being

irritatingly dazzled and annoying shadows being thrown into

the projection surface even when the available space is

tight. Requiring only a distance of 5.5 cm from the wall, the

NEC WT610 can display impressive 40-diagonal sized

images and so, particularly within the education sector, opens

    up completely new perspectives.

Together with the EduMount or EduMove systems and an

interactive whiteboard, the WT610 is also highly effective as

a chalkboard or flipchart appreciation method of working

partuclarly popular with pupils, students and trainees.

    Guaranteed learning success

Its always important that any equipment is reliably available

for use, particularly when the technology has stringent

demands placed on it and also has to contend with a large

    number of differing users.

NEC Display Solutions are renowned for highly reliable product

solutions. In addition, NEC also has an outstanding service

network at its disposal that will solve any technical questionsand problems that may arise in very quick time.

Warranties of up to three years, as well as an optional extended

lamp guarantee for the NP400/NP500/NP500W/NP600 special

educational variant models round off the NEC deal.

A registration number to appropriately label the relevant NEC

projector can be created by a simple registration process over

the internet. The serial number together with the customers

details is stored by NEC and serves to provide an additional

security measure against theft and unauthorised use.

EDUMOUNT ANDEDUMOVE SYSTEMS WITHTHE NEC WT610The perfect solution

    for the education sector

With the EduMount as well as the EduMove systems along

with the NEC WT610 Premium Short-Throw Projector, NEC

Display Solutions offers the best possible complete solution

    for the education sector.

With an innovative, highly-complex and NEC-patented mirror

system, the WT610 achieves an ultra-short projection distance

and can display an incredible 40-diagonal image whilst

situated only 5.5 cm distance from the wall.

Particularly within the training and further-education sectors,

this technology is opening up completely new perspectives.

Irritations such as when the presenter is dazzled by the

    projector lamp or shadows are

    cast on the projection screen

to obscure teaching content allnow belong to the past.

    The EduMount system a special

    wall fixture positions the projector

    to the desired, optimal projection

distance within the room. At the

    same time, the fixture has 2 x 10 W

    loudspeakers pre-integrated

into it and also has a completecable management system.

The EduMove system has a white-

    board connected to the fixture

    via an additional adaptor interface.

    The complete system, including

    projector, runs on rails positioned

on the wall and can be adjusted

according to the individual size of

the presenter. This is ideal when exchanging between a

presenter and a smaller child or wheelchair user.

Every computer application can thus be controlled by touch

using the interactive whiteboard (SMART board interactive

whiteboard) and using your finger which acts as the mouse.Notes, important information and highlights can all be written

directly onto the board with an electronic pen. The recorded

results can then be saved and distributed afterwards to

    all the participants.

Together with the EduMount system, EduMove represents a

perfect and modern replacement for the traditional black-

board or flip-chart, and is also an excellent basis for raising

the attention level of students and their learning efficiency.

The system can be supplied as a complete solution with

adapter interface and whiteboard (EduMove system: height

adjustable) or just as a wall fixture (EduMount system:

    height non-adjustable).

Dynamically-driven content allows the targeting of information

to specific groups of people. For example, this means that

important meetings, appointments, directions, general information

and importantly, site alarm information can be communicated

using NEC Display Solutions LCD and plasma public displays

as well as projectors to a target audience for their particular

attention. Whether in foyers, libraries, reading rooms, cafeterias

and training areas etc., our systems offer a high degree of

flexibility and up-to-date relevance whilst also saving time

in the preparation and distribution of information.

With a touch enabled overlay, NEC large format displays

are an ideal interactive Education class registration solution, reducing teacher manpower requirements and capturing

accurate data at the point of interactivity.

    The freedom of numerous options

NEC public displays and projectors have been designed to be

connected to a multiplicity of different video and PC sources

and can be centrally controlled over the network. Depending

on the model, they can also be equipped with an HDMI inter-face with HDCP so as to receive encrypted signals, as well as

with a RS-232 interface so that they can be integrated with

and controlled by legacy media systems.

NEC public displays with an option slot can be equipped with

a fully-functioning built-in PC that is directly integrated within

the display without any cabling or external power supply.

Additionally using, for example, wireless LAN, highly flexible

configurations can be created to achieve optimum deployment

in the most varied of different applications areas. Automatic

temperature control, integrated protection against overheating,

and the simple operability of NEC public displays make the

option slot solution a perfect and extremely reliable total system

    solution.

    Uncompromising picture qualityover longer distances

When digital systems giving directions or information are de-

ployed, large distances quite often develop between the PC

source and the display, with unsightly cabling also frequently

accompanying the system. Based on the Minicom DS Vision

3000 system, the NEC CAT 5 receiver allows the loss-free trans-

port of data over distances of up to 600 m. The display and

PC can therefore be situated at great distances from each other. The fully-integrated module solution for NEC public displays

with an option slot avoids the need for annoying external cab-

ling. This offers both aesthetic as well as practical advantages.

The NEC CAT 5 system can also function as a splitter, when

multiple displays with identical content need to be deployed.

This is particularly ideal, for example, for communicating

timetables, lecture plans, and room allocations etc. The maxi-

mum configuration allows 256 public displays to be served by

COMMUNICATIONSPARTNERSHIPEducation technologies not only support the

transfer of knowledge to be learned, but

also promote the distribution of information

within education facilities and hence also

    create networks of communication.

clips alongside static content, the Side-By-Side (SBS) view

is particularly suitable, with the display area being split up to

    a maximum of 50/50%.

    Protected information

Due to their high information content, public displays are

points of attraction. Whenever many people come into contact

with a display, as well as naturally requiring technical

reliability, a high degree of robustness is therefore also

prerequisite. Some of the NEC public display models can be

easily and quickly fitted with a high-quality protection glass

that can either be integrated onto the displays highly versatile

housing or added onto it afterwards.

a single PC, with one hundred percent synchronicity of the

content. This is clearly a more efficient solution compared to

    deploying multiple PCs.

    Multiple forms of image reproduction

The use of parallel forms of image reproduction offers an

attractive variety of possibilities in the education environment.

For example, the Picture-In-Picture (PIP) mode allows a small

window with additional information to be displayed over the

main, full-sized image. The Picture-On-Picture (POP) mode

allows the additional window to be displayed next to the full-

    sized image.

NECs public displays in the MultiSync 20 series, as well as

the NEC MULTEOS models, are equipped to display in DICOM

mode so that they allow the standardised reproduction of

medical images. This makes the displays ideal to act a light-

box simulator in lecture theatres. In addition they allow OPs

and lectures to be broadcast almost live into the lecture room.

With up to a third more active display area, the special wide

format displays in all of NECs product series ensure excellent

viewing for standard as well as for specialised applications.

This is equally true whether used in the class room, or in

    administrative and clerical areas.

Efficient working at the highest of levels

NEC Display Solutions desktop LCDs have been designedto a high ergonomic degree. Fatigue-free learning and working

is guaranteed by their height adjustability, rotatability and

tilting capability as well as their excellent picture quality.

The additional possibilities afforded by combinations of

protection glass and touch-sensitive control ensure the quality

of the display, even when there are frequent changes of

users. This also makes NEC displays a robust partner within

    the education sector.

COMPLETELY IN THE PICTURENECs speciality desktop LCD and large-format public display solutions create a bridge linking education and

training towards its more real-life practical application. Teaching content is brought to life, the learning experience

made more interesting, and teaching effectiveness and learning performance demonstrably increased.
