NPtHA Spotlight!
Congratulations to NPtHA member
Jocilynn Behlen
The reigning Miss Nebraska Pinto
is in the news!
Article credit: Columbus Telegram

The pony her parents got when Jocilynn Behlen was just a
toddler had her attention from the start. Although the
animal wasn’t supposed to be hers. “My parents got a free
pony for my older sister. I was 2 years old at the time. My
sister had no interest in the pony,” Behlen explained.
The younger Behlen sister had a different reaction. She was
enamored the moment she saw the pony. That meeting
started a lasting interest in horses.
Soon after, Behlen was taking riding lessons. Then 5 years
old, she started competing in horse shows at the county fair
and moved on to showing with the Nebraska Pinto
Association when she was 9.
The association provides opportunities for adults and youths
to compete. It also has a royalty competition where young
participants vie for titles through different judged events
like sportsmanship and riding.
Behlen, the daughter of Jaci and Brent Behlen, captured the
sweetheart title at age 10 and followed that up by becoming
princess when she was 13. Last month, the Columbus High
School junior was crowned Miss Nebraska Pinto Queen.
One of the main jobs for royalty is to promote the
association and recruit new members. Behlen is also
president of the Junior Nebraska Pinto Horse Club that
focuses on promoting opportunities for young riders and
raises money for causes through the Hooves for Hunger
program.
Although earning the title of queen was a goal, especially
when she was younger, the 17-year-old said she is more
focused now on improving as a trainer and rider.
Behlen takes part in four shows a year with the Pinto
Association and a few more through 4-H and other clubs.
She recently had two top-10 finishes at a national horse
show in Tulsa, Oklahoma. When she's not competing,
Behlen is caring for the six horses — Romeo, Gunner,
Diesel, TC, Bella and Nifty — kept at her parents’ home.
She rides at least four times a week and manages her time
with the horses while also working at Pet Care Specialists,
taking a slew of classes at Barb’s School of Dance and
practicing and performing as a member of the Diamond
Dancers at CHS.
Behlen sees horses as a part of her future. She hopes to
attend South Dakota State University because of that
school's equestrian team and wants to become an equine
veterinarian specializing in horses.
“I can’t imagine life without horses. It would be such a dull
world,” she said.
We will be spotlighting members
throughout the year!
We know our members are doing great stuff!
Let us know! We welcome all submissions for member highlights
and will post them accordingly. These submissions
do not necessarily have to be horse related. They can
be school, sports, job or whatever. Please submit
those with a picture(s) and the accomplishment.
Let's get to know our members and get behind them
and congratulate them on their accomplishments.

Blast from the past…..
Sisters, Robin and Amy Burgess
represented the Nebraska Pinto
Association back in the day!
If you have some pictures from past Pinto years
and would like to submit them, please do so!
We would love to see them! _________________________________________
When your day feels out of balance and
everything seems to be going wrong, when the
people around you fight and the clock drags long,
When some folk act like children and fill you with
remorse, then go to the paddock and wrap your
arms around a horse.
With a gentle breath they’ll enfold you, and with
large unjudging eyes they’ll watch over you. They
may not have a PHD, but they are full of wisdom.
Hug them good and tight, and they'll put your
world back into balance, make it all alright. Soon
your tears will stop flowing, the tension eased.
Through them you’ll feel calmed and at peace.
So when you need some balance from the
stresses of your day,
all the therapy you need is out there eating hay!
