This course is suitable for? Is this qualification recognized?The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational
Safety and Health (IGC) is internationally recognised and
essential for anybody working in or wanting to work in health
and safety. It is ideal for:
• Everybody working in a safety related role
• Those looking to start a career in health and safety
• Managers and supervisors with safety responsibilities as part of
a wider role
Eligibility CriteriaThere are no entry requirements for this qualification, however it
is important that learners have a suitable standard of English
language in order to understand and articulate the concepts
contained in the syllabus.
The NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) offers comprehensive understanding of occupational health and
safety principles and practices. The syllabus therefore focuses on international standards,in particular ILO codes of
practice. NEBOSH qualifications are categorised as ‘Other’ qualifications by SQA Accreditation in Scotland. These are
categorised as Vocationally-Related Qualifications (VRQs) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
There are now over 84,000 people worldwide who have passed this qualification. The qualification looks at general
workplace issues and can be applied in many sectors.
The NEBOSH International Certificate is widely respected by
employers globally and provides the academic requirement for
Technician Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH) and Associate
Membership of IIRSM (AIIRSM).

Examination & Certification: Resit
A candidate will get five years time to pass since he/she
registered for the NEBOSH IGC exam for the first time.
There is no limit to the number of times a candidate can
re-sit unit(s) within the five-year period.

Assessment is a two-step process:
IGC 1 – Management of health and safety will be
assessed by 2 hours written exam.
IGC 2 – A practical risk assessment (3 hours)
Both assessments are marked by external examiners
appointed by NEBOSH.

Element 1: Why we should manage workplace health and safety.
Element 2: How health and safety management systems work and what they look like.
Element 3: Managing risk – understanding people and processes
Element 4: Health and safety monitoring and measuring
Unit 2: Risk Assessment
Element 5: Physical and psychological health
Element 6: Musculoskeletal health
Element 7: Chemical and biological agents
Element 8: General workplace issues
Element 9: Work equipment
Element 10: Fire
Element 11: Electricity
Candidates who are pursuing NEBOSH IGC
on current syllabus must complete (pass)
all 3 units until 31st March 2022. If he/she
could not clear on the above mentioned
date, all previously passed units will be
nullified.
