"There's a Better Way"

Well, here I am writing this, and it is already July. Time truly does fly. Even though sometimes it can seem like our circumstances drag on.

Take Covid for example. Is anyone else having trouble remembering what life used to be like? Instead of longing for our old ways back I am reminded of the Israelites about to cross the Red Sea into freedom in Exodus 14. Yet, they thought they had been drug out to the desert to die. It is true we don't know even close to all the ways God is working in our lives. We may have to go through trouble. Like the Israelites, we too can check into a new normal. A normal filled with Hope and the assurance of faith.

Our faith will be tested many times through life. If we keep focus on the True Hope that is Jesus Christ, our faith will get stronger through the trials of this life.

The span of our years is nothing before God says Psalm 39:5. Our lives are not to be wasted in turmoil.

We seem to live in a world full of turmoil right now. So many seem to be doing just that, living their lives in turmoil.

There is a different way to live! 1 John 5:19 says we are from God. If we are from God than we can't be from the world. We are not to love the world or the things in it.

Psalm 131 says if we meditate on God's great and wonderful works, He provides us comfort to be content with His presence. Furthermore, the Psalmist says confidence in the Lord gives us a calm and quieted soul even in the midst of turmoil.

I am very excited to meet all of you hopefully soon. With an engaged, energetic, passionate congregation like yours the future looks really bright. I am so blessed to be a part of your church. I am Married to Jessica Remme, we just celebrated our 10th anniversary. She grew up on a farm outside of Little Rock, IA.We have 3 children, Braxton-8, Gavin-5, Oaklyn (passed away as an infant Jan-18).

I was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. My family and I are proud to call Rock Rapids home and have since December of 2011.

I have a bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University of Sioux Falls and have been a student at the Sioux Falls Seminary since February of 2019 where I am pursuing my Masters of Divinity.

My family also owns the Visiting Angels franchise in Sioux Falls. We are a homecare agency specializing in making it possible for seniors to age in place.

I have been called into ministry over the last few years. I started following the call at Zoar Presbyterian church in George, IA with opening the services in November of 2018.

Over the last year God has sped things up in a way I would have never imagined. I filled the pulpits on and off of several area churches in the second half of 2019. This has been an affirmation in many ways for me and my family.

Most recently for the first half of 2020 I was serving on a part-time basis two small churches near Sioux city.

After saying a year ago that I wasn't sure what I had planned to do with my Seminary degree. God has reminded me that his thoughts and ways are above mine.

God qualifies the called. I feel the last year has been preparations for me in a way I couldn't have seen for myself.

I feel very blessed to be here and a part of this journey. My family and I are looking forward to getting to know all of you soon. Travis, Jessica, Braxton, Gavin

RRUMC MEAL MINISTRY A great BIG Thank you going out to all of you helping prepare, serve, and donate to this local ministry. During this time of Covid-19 we have been serving around 150 people each month. Everything is the same in preparing the meals. The difference is in the serving. We can drop off the meals in George and Rock Rapids, but we are not handing out the sack suppers out at the door. We are missing that contact. Please find it in your hearts to write

a message or 2 and drop it off at the church. We have a basket located by the meal ministry sign-up area. The spiritual part of the ministry is the message. When we read our Bible, we get the message through word. We go to the word for comfort, guidance, and love. This may be that opportunity for those receiving the Sack supper from our church. My prayers are many, currently. I pray for hope, peace, understanding, courage, and Love. We would love to have you join us in this ministry by serving, praying, or donating.

God Bless,Rhonda and Kathy

Luke 6 vs 38“Give and it will be given to you A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with measure you use, it will be given to you.”

Rock Rapids Clean Up Days 2020July 9th 1:00-8:00 & July 11th 8:00-noonThis year the format for cleanup days is new. We will have a central drop of location that will be open 2 different times to help accommodate busy schedules. The new procedure is a joint decision between the public works department and the

garbage contractors, in an effort to keep costs down, prevent out of town garbage from being disposed of in the city cleanup days, and to prevent

messes caused by damaged items as people rummaged through piles. Drop off will be in the city lot between 2nd and 3rd ave. Please enter from the north off of 2nd ave, and exit to the south onto 3rd ave. There will be workers there that will help direct you, and they

will have the tags for the appliances and other electronic items that require stickers available for purchase. If you have concerns about getting items to the drop off, there

have been numerous offers from local church groups and neighbors to help, just ask. You may also contact your

garbage contractor about any other pickup options. For questions, call 472-2553.

RRUMC is in charge of delivering Meals on Wheels July 20-31. There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the Narthex.

Thank you.

The July/August issues of Upper Room have been placed on the table near the restrooms, and are available for $1.50 each. July Birthdays And Anniversaries

GOD BLESS THE CHILDRENA little child in church watched as the ushers passed the offering plate. When they neared the pew where he sat, the youngster piped up so that everyone could hear. ‘Don’t pay for me Daddy. I’m under five.’

**************

A 6-year-old was overheard reciting the Lord’s Prayer at church service. ‘And forgive us our trash passes, as we forgive those who passed trash against us.’

**************

A Mother was teaching her three-year-old The Lord’s Prayer. For several evenings at bedtime, the child repeated it after the Mother. Then one night the child was ready to solo. The Mother listened with pride to carefully enunciated words, right up to the end. ‘And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us some e-mail’.
