Robert (Bob) Giza passed away on January 31, 2017 just 39 days after his wife of 59 years, Carol Anne, passed away on December 23, 2016. Bob and Carol Anne met in 8th grade, were Lancaster High School sweethearts, were King and Queen of the 1956 LHS Prom, and both had a strong passion for our community as they touched the lives of thousands of people.
Bob Giza was a lifelong resident of Lancaster. He was very involved in the Lancaster community serving as a physical education teacher at St. Mary’s Elementary School for 29 years and working at the Depew-Lancaster Boys & Girls Club for 33 years. He was a past member of the Depew-Lancaster Sertoma and the Depew Lions Club. He had an unselfish spirit and loved helping other people.
Bob served as a Lancaster Town Councilman from 1982 to 1995 and as Town Supervisor from 1996 to 2011. During his tenure as Supervisor, Bob was instrumental in making the
Richard Pascucci Band Shell a reality. It was his goal to have a state of the art facility as nice as any other in Erie County for our community band. This facility pairs so nicely with our Youth Bureau and Senior Center, which were also built while Bob was serving as a Councilman. These buildings are testaments to Bob’s love for this town. Bob and Carol Anne had a strong love for their family. They often spoke of their kids Robert, Ronald, and Wendy and of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were so proud of them and all their accomplishments. Bob and his wife Carol Anne were strong supporters of the arts. It wasn’t unusual to see them at community concerts, musicals and shows at the Lancaster Opera House. It is with love and appreciation that the Lancaster Town Band dedicates this concert to the memory of Bob and Carol Giza.
