Introduction

In the previous class we were told the problem faced by human beings. It was explained why does the human being not believe; it is because they love to be hasty. The main mistake is that man wants the reward to come in the Duniya. He is very hasty. The second problem is that they leave behind the Akhirah. There will be two groups on the Day of Judgment.

1. People with glow on their face. There are people who know Allah and they submit. Their submission shows as a glow on their face. These people do good deeds in Duniya for pleasure of Allah.

2. People with gloomy faces. They are people who are awaiting punishment. In the Duniya we need to think about Allah for everything. This will determine our standing on the Day of Judgment in front of Allah. The Ayat that we study today tells us about he gate to the Day of Judgment i.e. death. The death is the way going towards Day of Judgment There are two types of Day of Judgment

1. Major Day of Judgment – After blowing of the trumpet. 2. Minor Day of Judgment – Starts from the moment of death of the person

We need to know the feeling of the dying person so we know how we need to be in our life. Lets us see how that moment is explained in the Quran

Ayah 26

Here in this Ayah, Allah is warning the people who read the Quran whether they are good doer or sinner:

Page 3: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

Good Doer – This will help the good doer to increase his faith as he needs to guard his faith at all times. The good doer will try to increase the faith and will ask Allah the firmness Bad Doer – They will take the message of Allah seriously and repent So the Ayah benefits whoever is opening and reading the Quran. Allah is warning that everyone will go through death. Here Allah is explaining the how soul will travel in the body and depart. Allah says in the Quran that the soul is something divine from Allah and we know little about it from the knowledge. No one knows when or where will a person die. Allah knows what is the best way suiting a person in death. How will it travel in the body and depart?

In this Ayah it is said that when soul reaches ٱٱلترااقى which is the bone in the throat

through, which a soul will pass and come out. When the soul reaches ٱٱلترااقى then there is no time for repentance. In Surah Waaqiyah it is said:

“Then why, when the soul at death reaches the throat” The soul of the dying person soul travels from his feet till the throat and it exits the body through the eyes. Who is responsible to make the soul exit? The Angel of Death is responsible for making the soul exit. Even if many people die at the same time the Angel of Death is present for each one of them. On the Laylatul Qadr the Angel of Death gets the names of all the people who will die till the next Layatul Qadr (one year). The information of the names of people, where and how will they die is passed from the preserved tablet to the Angel of Death for that year. Allah assigned him the duty to take the soul of everybody. How the soul will be taken is different according to how a person is.

Page 4: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

S u r a h A l - Q i y a m a h 4

For some people the soul will be taken very easily as it is described in Surah An - Naziat

“And [by] those who remove with ease” The soul of the good doer will come out very easy like a drop of rain. As for the Sinners and the Kafireen the soul will come out with great difficulty as it is described in Surah An-Naziat

“By those [angels] who extract with violence” The soul of the sinner will be extracted like the plucking of the hair. The soul refuses to come out. When the person dies, all the result will come from that moment. The Angel of Death is responsible for taking the soul of the dying person. When he takes the soul it does not remain in his hand for even a blink of an eye. The other angels take the soul from him immediately. These other angels are witnessing the death.

Ayah 27

The previous Ayah is telling us about what is happening inside the dying person. In this Ayah we are told about what is happening on the outside. The dying person wants anyone to save him from what he is facing. People around him see him that he is facing the difficulty. These people around him will look for a cure. They will ask if can anybody do

means ررااقق Here the meaning is if anyone can cure him by reciting the Ruqyah. So ررااقق

Ruqyah. Other scholars said ررااقق means doctor or any cure or medication that can cure the dying person. The people around him are losing hope and therefore are looking for means to help the person. But can they help that person? No because the time for the person is over.

Page 6: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

Ayah 28

.means “surely believe”. The dying person is sure he is certain that he will depart ظظن Others are thinking of ways to curing him but the dying person knows this is the moment for departing the Duniya.

means separation from the Duniya. So why do we worry about the Duniya? Why ٱٱلفرااقق are we sad or happy about the Duniya? We will depart from the Duniya so why we make it so important. Other than the faith nothing is important in Duniya.

means separation from everyone around us including our family. In the Duniya we ٱٱلفرااقق are trying to please people at the cost of Allah’s displeasure but we will separate from everyone around us. At the same time we need to have good relation with the people around us so atleast they have good memories of us. It should not be the case that people are happy at the time of our death. We should have good relationship with all even if others are bad to us.

means separation from the wealth and everything a person wants in this life. We ٱٱلفرااقق

need to make use of everything in this life to make us close to Allah. We should not let the Duniya to make us far from Allah. Nothing can benefit the dying person when is soul is departing, But now when we read the Ayah we need to think of it as Allah is reminding us through this Ayah that we need to be grateful that we are alive and we should repent.

Ayah 29

Here in this Ayah it is said about what the people will do for the dead person. They will perform ghusl, shroud him and then bury him in the sand. How the person is in the Duniya will determine what will happen to him. When people will wash him and shroud him then the feet of the dying person will turn, as the dying person does not have any power. On the other side, the Angel of Death takes the soul, then the other angels who are witnessing the death, will take the soul from the angel of death and they will shroud the soul. The other angels are waiting with the shroud of the soul. If the person is good he will have shroud from paradise. If he is a sinner then his shroud is from the hell. For the body the shroud is white but most important is how our shroud will be for the soul. They soul will ascend till the heaven. Then if it is a good soul, it will travel till the 7th heaven and if it is an evil soul then it will not even reach the 1st heaven and will fall freely to the grave.

One meaning of ساقق is the feet or the shin and according to other Tafseer it means the calamity and stress. The dead person is in stress as it is a critical moment. It is the first gate to Akhirah. If this is good then everything after will be good and better. If this is bad then the worse is to come so this Ayah can also mean that the stress is mixed with another stress.

Page 8: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

S u r a h A l - Q i y a m a h 8

There is a Hadith of the Prophet SAW that if your stress is more about the Akhirah then Allah will take care of all your other worries and stress i.e. if we make the Akhirah our concern. However if someone is stressed about the Duniya then Allah will leave him to himself. Can we protect and guard ourselves? No. Some people stress about simple things. We need to take Duniya as it is. We need to overlook and pardon.

Ayah 30

In this Ayah it is said to Allah is مساقق .ٱٱلمساقق is from ساقق which means drive. This

means the Day of Judgment. ٱٱلمساقق. means something will drive him and take him to

Allah. These are the angels.

Page 9: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

S u r a h A l - Q i y a m a h 9

means the Day of Judgment. On the Day of Judgment all souls will be driven to يیومٮذ

Allah. “ ٱٱلمساقق.” means the souls don’t have a choice, wherever the driver is taking the

soul will have to go. This is the situation on the Day of Judgment. In the Duniya we have a choice between good and bad, between believe and disbelieve, between obeying Allah or disobey him. On the Day of Judgment we will all be driven. In this Ayah it is said to our lord is the return. In Surah Qiyamah Ayah no 12 Allah is saying “ To your lord is the destination”

1. When there is mention of return always Allah’s name Ar Rabb mentioned as Ar Rabb nurtures, provides etc. Therefore we will go back to our Rabb.

2. In Ayah 12 which is in the beginning of the Surah ٱٱلمستقر is mentioned which

means destination/settlement (referred to the hereafter). Here in this Ayah ٱٱلمساقق is mentioned which means drive. This means after death there is no choice and the angels will drive him.

3. After these 2 Ayat we understand the return is to Allah so why in every matter we

don’t turn to Allah. If we want anything we need to turn to Allah. This is for everything. Allah is our provider, sustainer and nurturer. Rabb means any time we can return to him for any matter in the life. In the end for sure we will return to Allah. The final return is to Allah; in the life if we return to Allah we will get a reward. In the Akhirah it will be by force

4. In the Duniya not everyone will return to Allah. It depends on how much know

Allah we will return to him. We are hesitant to return to a person about whom we don’t know. In the Day of Judgment there is no choice. We will return to Allah for the recompense and accounts. Based on what we did in the Duniya we will get the outcome accordingly.

The Ayah is benefitting the Muttaqeen, The more taqwa we have the more the Ayat protect us. The Ayah needs to go to a clean heart; the more we struggle with Taqwa the more the Quran effects on us. The heart is the place of the Quran. a clean Muttaqeen heart. What is stopping us from pondering on the Quran? It is the sickness of our heart

Page 10: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

Ayah 31

If we know we will return to Allah then it should make us to do good. However if a person is stubborn and the previous Ayat does not impact him, then we are told in this Ayah how such a person will be in the Duniya.

1. Such a person does not have any faith. صدقق means belief. Such a person will only

believe his eyes and ears. It will take only an atom of faith to save a person from hell fire. Faith is what determines our success on the Day of Judgment. What does belief mean? It means we believe anything that Allah is saying e.g. life of the grave, although no once can see it but we need to believe. However the stubborn person will only believe when he sees from his eyes. When will that be? On the DOJ but at that time there is no reward for faith. Therefor we need to belief in the Duniya.

Page 11: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

S u r a h A l - Q i y a m a h 1 1

2. Someone who did not believe will not pray. What belief do we need in the prayer? We need so much belief in prayer that when we pray; Allah is in front of us. That when we are praying, Allah is listening to us. We need a prayer that is based on faith.

In this Ayah, Allah describes the stubborn person having the following 2 traits:

1. He did not belief (Action of heart) 2. He did not pray (Action of the limb)

So such a person did not believe and did not pray. Prayer is the action of the limb about which we will be asked on the DOJ. So what is important?

1. Belief 2. Salah as this will the first thing Allah will recompense and ask us.

The stubborn people are not taking the admonition seriously. Faith can differentiate between believers and disbelievers. As for the Salah there are people and others who don’t pray or pray like Munafiq. The biggest elimination is disbelief and belief. This is Tasdeeq. The second elimination is Salah when we will be shown the shin of Allah we will be commanded to prostrate. Only the believers will prostrate. Although the Munafiqeen are praying in the Duniya but on that Day their backs will be stiff and they will not be able to prostrate.

Page 12: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

Ayah 32

This is opposite. He did not belief so he belied. He trusted his intellect or logic. For matters for faith and Unseen we need to take as it is. We cannot judge these things with our mind. A person who is a believer is always in security. We cannot use our mind to judge over the commands of Allah. This is following Iblees as he used his mind to judge that fire is better than earth so he denied Allah commands. Here the following is mentioned:

means belied ( heart ) كذبب .1

means he turned away. This means disobeyed ( Action ) تولى .2

What shows in the heart will be reflected in our actions. Disbelief will make a person turn away by his limbs. This is because the hearts belied. Look at the opposite. If we believe then it makes a person submit. What makes us go forward to Allah? Everything is about the belief. If we believe Allah will reward us then we will do good deeds. What is the impact of Ayah 31 and 32 ?

1. Belief 2. Prayer

Page 13: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

Ayah 33

Here in this Ayah the attitude of the disbeliever is mentioned who is not blaming himself. How is the stubborn person living in this life? He will live according to his mind. There is no prayer so there is no submission to Allah. If we are not slave of Allah then we are slaves of so many. How will be his attitude in the life? He will be heedless and negligent.

He will go to his household يیتمطى which means stretched. This means he is very proud.

In his mind he thinks he is good. He goes to his family rejoicing and proud of himself. Another meaning is that he does not want to do good deeds. Good deeds are a burden for him. If someone is proud or arrogant then good deeds will be difficult for him. Pride is two types:

1. Rejecting the truth 2. Putting down the people

Page 14: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

Here in this Ayah Allah is warning by saying “ Woe to him” أأوولى is said 4 times. Here

This means Allah will assign to him what he hates or .وويیل is mentioned instead of أأوولى dislikes.

Ayah 36

This Ayah is softer than the previous Ayah. The Ayah is mentioned in the form of a question. Here Allah is asking the arrogant man if he thinks that he will be left neglected? Will Allah neglect him? Did Allah create us without a purpose? Allah will not forsake us. Allah will not leave us without commands. Allah will not leave us without guidance. There is do and don’t do. Does the man think he will be left for vain / neglected? Allah created us, provided us and does not neglect us. Allah gave us the guidance, which is the biggest

Page 16: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

blessing. If we are alive then Allah will provide for us as long as our time of does not come. If we are alive, Allah will take care of us. It is certain that Allah will bring the commands. Allah will show us the guidance. The human being is the one who disobeys by not taking the guidance and not taking Allah’s nurturing. Allah shows us the right way but if a person is not taking the commands he will be lost. Negligence here is about guidance; it is about the halal and haram and depending on our accounts Allah will recompense us and there will be reward or punishment.

Ayah 38

The Ayat towards the end of the Surah are very soft. This Ayah is soft where Allah is asking that don’t the human being know that before he was a drop of semen being poured in the uterus. This is about creation of the human being. Allah is telling us that a small tiny thing is our creation.

Page 17: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

Ayah 39

Allah is saying in the uterus Allah takes care of the نطفة which then changes to hanged

clot and the baby then looks like a clot hanged from the uterus. علقة means hanged blood

clot. This is one of the stages of the creation of the baby. Then the baby will be formed means the organs will be created and finally the whole creation will be perfected.

Ayah 40

Here Allah is saying that he creates the baby depends on the whether the baby is man or woman. Our life is important to make us close to Allah. We need to accuse ourselves and attach ourselves to Allah

Page 19: ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah - SISTERSNOTES · 22ND JUNE 2013 Surah Al Qiyamah Class 5 – (Ayah 26-40) This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah

Ayah 41

Here it is said Allah is able to bring back a person after he is dead. Allah is able to create us again. For Allah the first creation was easy and second creation is even easier. This Ayah is again in the form of a question asking is Allah not able to give life to the dead? What should be the action of our heart?

1. We need اامة to make us close to Allah. We are not neglected. There is an نفس االلو

oath we gave that we need to take and fulfill. 2. We gave an oath 3. Everything we do should be to make our self close to Allah 4. We need to remember our death at all times 5. We need to have good relation with people and with Allah
