Performing music from the beginning of the 20th century until the present, this evening explores the rarely heard European influences in Cuban music by great composers such as Lecuona, Valdes Cervantes, etc., melding European classical styles with Jazz and Afro Cuban Rhythms. Friday, March 23, 2018 — 7:30 p.m. Pat & Emilia: A Mixed-Media Chamber Opera Pat & Emilia is a new mixed-media chamber opera based on the lives of two Windsor, Ontario artists — photographer Pat Sturn (1910 - 2011) and opera singer Emilia Cundari (1930 - 2005). Act One, created by Tara Sievers-Hunt, features opera arias from Emilia’s repertoire alongside monologues inspired by newspaper interviews given by the singer from the 1950s to 1970s. In its second season, the Depart-ment of Music’s resident Walker String Quartet will partner with fac-ulty pianist Karin Di Bella in a pro-gram that features two of the most iconic works in the string quintet repertoire. The Schumann quintet was written in 1842 and created the genre. Almost 100 years later, Shostakovich redefi ned it.

Jump with Guy Few (trumpet and piano) and Stephanie Mara (piano)

A program that springs across the spectrum of classical music, Guy Few and Stephanie Mara present Jump, which explores the quirkier side of repertoire for trumpet and piano, and piano four-hand.
