raalts. :Jour recruits of :British Virgin Islands origin were appointed

:By the end of the year, the establishment of 62 was up to

strength, with twenty five (25) members being ot ttbelongerll status.

ORaANIAATION

6. The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force was established on

26th Februar,y, 1961 following Constitutional changes in the Leewards

Islands. ![Yhe Police Act Cap 142, Laws of the Virgin Islands, p~ov:1de • for the e.ta'blishDaent of the Farce and s eta out the main duties ot the Force as being "the prevention and detection of crime and the

r8J»ression of internal disturbance", and "defending the Territory in

the event of external. aggression". The Police Act is, in general, very out dated and in Deed of urgent revision.
