Season 2 of our favorite TV show, Glee, will start on TV on Sep-tember 9, 2010. The show will be on Tuesday nights at 8:00 pm on FOX. There will be three new characters: Kurt’s boyfriend, A ri-val for Rachael, and a boyfriend for Mercedes. Cristin likes the show because it’s funny and there’s a cute guy (Finn) in it. Chris Feltwell likes the singers and the girls, especially Mercedes. It is a fun a fun show to watch.

On June 17th I volunteered with others from SPIN to clean up Pennypack Park. We did this with help from the Fairmount Park Commission. Our job was to look for trash, pick it up, and throw it away. We were given gloves and trash grabbers to use so we wouldn’t get dirty. There was a lot of trash to pick up and it was hard work. It is important to pick up trash so the park is kept clean and so animals do not think it is food. While picking up trash we also saw an animal bone and a dead fish. We all worked very hard. After we picked up trash a few of us had a picnic lunch at the park. I was excited for the picnic lunch and I took off my shoes to relax my feet. While eating we met a stray cat and talked about the day. I would like to clean the park again.

Lori Copestick helped clean up Pennypack Park with David Mudry, Fran McKeown,

Monica Maye, Pat Slawinski, and Sherry Henderson.

SPIN Choir Sings For Mural Art Dedication

N C C N E W S L E T T E R

The SPIN choir was invited to sing at a Mural Dedication in Mt. Airy on July 13, 2010. The artist, Jon Laidaker, of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, created this beautiful mural at Germantown Ave. and Sharpnack St. The name of the mural is “It’s All About Community.” Approximately 100 people came out on this HOT July day to see the choir and watch the ribbon-cutting of the mural. ~Kate Clancy

These three ladies first met at NCC a few years ago. Shannon Feldman is a member at NCC and Sarah Clarke and Toni Hinkle are Recreational Thera-pists who facilitate the creative and fun activities offered. When it was discovered among them that they each had a fascination with the movie “Twilight,” a strong bond quickly formed. They began eating lunch together in the NCC Café, where they shared Twilight fan literature, new Twilight gear, and movie updates. When the Twilight sequel, “New Moon,” was released on DVD, Sarah hosted a DVD release party at her home and invited Shannon and Toni. When the third movie, “Eclipse,” was released in theaters, all three ladies waited together in line at the movie theater for the midnight showing. They are looking forward to the 2011 release of the fourth Twilight movie, “Breaking Dawn.” It can’t come

SPARC Self-Advocacy Barbecue

N C C N E W S L E T T E R

I had a good time at the SPARC barbecue on July 23rd. Many people introduced themselves. I didn't realize there were two other groups besides Day SPARC. Terrie and Stacy are two of my friends that said a few words about SPARC. Terrie used a communication board like mine for a short presentation to the group. She did a great job and I'm very proud of her. It was important for everyone with disabilities to get together and talk about being independent and sticking up for ourselves. The food was tasty and the music was rockin’! ~Patti Gross

71 people (42 self-advocates and 29 support persons, mentors and volunteers) attended the SPARC barbecue held in the NCC Gym on July 23rd. The event was a huge success!

SPIN, Inc. CEO David Losinno was our Keynote Speaker.

Please contact Elinore Spiotta at NCC: 215-698-

3059, to find out more about SPARC, our self-advocacy group at SPIN

that meets monthly.
