SUMMARY

I am an applied economist whose expertise lies in program evaluation methods and causal inference. My research has provided me with extensive experience in working with large datasets. My work as a teaching assistant for undergraduate economics classes provides me with a strong background in breaking down and explaining complex economic ideas to audiences not familiar with the subject matter.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Empirical Methods Proficient: regression techniques (fixed effect, difference-in-difference, regression discontinuity, non-linear models, clustering), instrumental variables, propensity score matching, experimental design. Familiar: ridge, LASSO, and elastic net regressions, cross-validation procedures, nonparametric density and regression estimation. Software and Programming Proficient: Stata, LaTeX, Microsoft Office suite Familiar: SAS, Matlab, Python, and SQL

EDUCATION

Ph.D., Economics, expected 2018 University of California, San Diego M.A., Economics, 2017 University of California, San Diego B.A., Economics (cum laude) and Mathematics, 2011 Rutgers University

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Graduate Student Researcher, UC San Diego, Department of Economics 2012 – present

Using Stata, I estimate the causal impact of mandated choice on organ donor registration rates with a regression discontinuity design on organ donor data from the California DMV and Donate Life California.

Examine how households make decisions on charitable giving through the lens of household bargaining with the 2003 and 2005 waves of the Panel Survey of Income Dynamics dataset.

Prepare three papers for publication in top economics journals on topics including the effects of mandated choice on organ donor registration rates and the dynamics of prosocial behavior in married couples.

Research Assistant, UC San Diego, Department of Economics 2014 – 2015

Used LaTeX to format the manuscript according to the Princeton University Press standards for “Economic Forecasting,” by Professors Graham Elliot and Allan Timmermann.

Research Assistant, UC San Diego, Department of Economics 2014 Used LaTeX to create a set of problems and solutions for the Intermediate Microeconomics

Video Handbook. These problems will be used by all UCSD students enrolled in microeconomics classes and will eventually be rolled out to all UC campuses.

Undergraduate Student Researcher, Rutgers University, Department of Economics 2011 Analyzed discrimination against small businesses in credit markets using SAS and the 2003

Survey of Small Businesses. For this work, I earned the Henry Rutgers Scholars Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Honors Thesis and was also named a Paul Robeson Scholar.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Teaching Assistant, UC San Diego Department of Economics 2012 – present

Lead weekly discussion sections, hold weekly office hours, and lead exam review sessions on topics including consumer behavior (intermediate microeconomics) and strategic decision-making (game theory).

Help instructors write exam questions, grade exams, and teach lectures as needed.

AWARDS AND HONORS

Graduate Summer Research Fellowship, UCSD, 2013 Henry Rutgers Scholars Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Honors Thesis, Rutgers University, 2011 Paul Robeson Scholar, Rutgers University, 2011 Edward J. Shustak Memorial Scholarship for Academic Excellence, Rutgers University, 2011

LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Mridangam (South Indian Classical Percussion) 2004 – present

Regularly perform in concerts, including fundraising programs. Help organize community outreach programs in San Diego public libraries to introduce South

Indian classical music to broad and diverse audiences. Organize performing opportunities for youth musicians in Southern California.

President of the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY) 2016

Responsible for securing funding from the UCSD Graduate Student Association and organizing programs at UCSD.
