CHILD AND YOUTH PROGRAMS DIRECT CARE EMPLOYEES
ANNUAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Direct care and youth sports staff must have 48 hours of training annually. Until the initial competency-based training (VLS courses or
modules, as appropriate) is completed, a minimum of 24 of the 48 training hours must focus on completing the initial competency
based training. If time permits, more than 24 hours can be used toward initial competency based training completion.
In addition to the topics below, training related directly to outcomes from staff observations and quarterly coaching should be
incorporated for direct care staff who have completed initial competency based training. This may also include trainings required to
accommodate specific children with special needs, if needed, and training based on the needs of the program as a whole.
Other required trainings (TWMS, ESAMS, or other locally required trainings) should be used to count toward the total 48 hours.
SAC and Youth employees may be exempt from the rate of 2 hours per month during the summer months; however, the VLS courses
or modules must still be completed within 24 months from the date of hire.

Child Development Home Providers are required to receive a minimum of 24 hours of training each year. Programs may determine the rate to accrue training hours that
best meets the needs of the provider and program, provided that training is received by the due date and 24 hours of training have been accrued in the past 12 months.
Providers who have not yet completed initial competency-based training may use course completion hours towards the 24 hours per year training requirement.
