Real time mapping. The new mapping system in GeoExplorer v4 is built on a fast ‘tiling’ platform to deliver a dynamic user experience similar to what we have come to expect with popular web based mapping sites. Background images can be based on local map files (GeoTIFF, ecw, etc) or web based services.

Advanced alarming. The GeoExplorer alarming system allows you to define alarm triggers for all available measurements Measurements can include displacements, velocities, battery voltages, and many others. Once the criteria for a trigger have been met, the system will automatically execute user defined actions.

Sensor reports. Each sensor in GeoExplorer has a predefined report for graphing data. You can define additional custom reports for your own use and you can publish your custom reports for viewing by other users at your site.

Client-Server architecture.Speed was a core design consideration with GeoExplorer v4. Whether the end user is a dispatcher in your fiber optic connected dispatch offices, or a consultant providing remote support over a slow satellite link, GeoExplorer’s multi-user design makes the experience fast and seamless.

GPS & GNSSWhen deformation monitoring data really counts, there is no substitute for GPS & GNSS systems. With no moving parts and the ability to provide 24/7 automated monitoring data in extreme environments, it’s a perfect choice for monitoring critical structures and landmasses.

GeoExplorer v4 builds on our proven GPS processing engine by adding user defined processing intervals, additional GPS data types, and support for advanced sensors. Multiple alarm triggers can be defined for each sensor so that your field support staff can get system health notifications and engineers and dispatchers are shown only critical displacement alerts.

Total StationsTotal Stations and prisms are powerful tools for monitoring a large number of points in a well defined area such as highwalls in a mine pit.

The total station module in GeoExplorer was enhanced significantly in v4. We added support for user defined measure cycles that allow you to set different reading intervals for groups of prisms. There is now a measure cycle history viewer to show statistics about past monitoring cycles as well as any errors that were detected. We have added support for the latest total stations from top manufacturers such as Leica Geosystems. Advanced total station capabilities such as Leica’s ‘Target Capture’ are fully supported from within GeoExplorer.

Wireline ExtensometersThe Wireline Extensometer module in GeoExplorer is used to store data from manual read wirelines.

Measurements can be added to the database through the GeoExplorer interface, or in the field using rugged PDAs running special software. When PDAs are used, the measurements are automatically time and location tagged with GPS to reduce input errors.

Weather StationsWeather plays an important role in deformation monitoring. Weather data collected by GeoExplorer is used for correcting atmospheric influenced measurements from other modules, as well as helping users to understand the site conditions.

The weather station module is capable of collecting data from many popular weather stations. The system collects temperature, pressure, humidity, wind speed / direction and rain / hail. All of the measurements can be used with the alarming component to create notifications for a variety of user types. Weather data such as rain accumulation can also be graphed alongside displacements measured by other sensors to help understand slope movement events.

In-Place InclinometersIn-Place Inclinometers are often used for real-time monitoring of landslides and other critical slopes.

The GeoExplorer system currently supports data from Slope Indicator M-Loggers as well as Campbell Scientific CR loggers.

Tilt MetersTilt meters are effective tools for monitoring structures that are not suited for GPS or other 3D technologies.

GeoExplorer now supports MEMS tilt meters from popular manufacturers such as RST and Slope Indicator. Like IPI systems, sensor calibrations can be handled directly in GeoExplorer to simplify installations. Tilt data can also be collected by Campbell Scientific CR loggers.

Vibrating Wire PiezometersVibrating Wire Piezometers are typically used for monitoring pore water pressures. They can also be used to monitor water levels.

GeoExplorer v4 can handle data from virtually any vibrating wire piezometer. The system stores frequency and temperature from the sensors and uses sensor calibration records to compute pressure and water levels.

Alarms can be set on water level, pressure and temperature. The piezometer module is capable of interfacing with the weather station module to determine a barometric pressure offset so that atmospheric pressure does not bias piezometer measurements for water level readings in standpipes or reservoirs.

WebcamsAs powerful as other monitoring technologies can be, sometimes there is no substitute for a picture. GeoExplorer v4 adds support for webcams. Virtually any webcam can be integrated and displayed live in GeoExplorer. Image collection is all handled by the GeoExplorer server component to cut down on unnecessary traffic over site networks.

SecurityYou might want to know if there are unauthorized personnel at risk in a deformation hazard area, or if someone is trying to steal a piece of important monitoring equipment. Either way GeoExplorer can manage data from security sensors such as motion sensors, door contacts, smoke alarms, and many others. Alarming is handled just like deformation sensors and activation of external lights and sirens is possible.

External AlarmsThe most important function of any monitoring system is making sure that people in the field get the warnings they need. In GeoExplorer v4 one of the ‘actions’ that can be assigned to an alarm trigger is the activation of indoor or outdoor alarm boxes. These devices can activate strobe lights and sirens to notify field personnel of a potential issue. Once the hazard has been mitigated, authorized users can clear the alarm event which will disable the alarm boxes.

WiFi Power ManagementRadio networks are a critical part of any monitoring system. If the network is down, monitoring data can’t get back to the office where it is needed.

GeoExplorer can interface with intelligent radio power managers that monitor the state of the network radios and display them live. This makes diagnosis and repair of network issues much faster allowing you to focus on your monitoring data, not your monitoring systems.
