Project Background:The benets of shooting on lm are clear, you shoot less and think more, because lm, is physical and lm, is expensive. In an era where camera technologies are getting faster, cheaper and easier to use, we are beginning to get desensitized and lose value for the medium. We now think less and shoot more. Despite knowing the benets, using a lm camera is not preferred because of the cost of lm and processing charges. In contrast, phone cameras have gained in popularity because it is practically free and very easy to use. Another very important advantage of having a phone camera is that you have it with you at all times.

Project by Angad Bharaj, Ashish Jain and Navin Devnani

“Designing a camera which is portable, assists self-learning and helps develop a renewed thought process inspired from a lm photography camera.”

Developing the Form: The camera had to be pocket-able and at the same time had to t well in the hand, so with this in mind we began exploring

dierent forms with plasticine.

Form Renement and Dimensioning: In order to nalize the dimensions we tested out the form with the hand of a 5 percentile female and a 95 percentile male. The form also allowed for 2 dierent comfortable grips for dierently sized hands.

The form is ergonomically derived and geometrically rened.

The nal form was milled on a CNC for perfect dimensions and curves.

Objective: To design a metal container inspired from an icosahedron.

Sequence of Bending: Top Sequence of Bending: Base

Once both the parts are prepared separately, they will be laser welded. This aluminum Gullak will be much more dicult to break open than the traditional earthern Gullaks.

The USB cartridge can only store upto 36 photographs at a time. An e-Ink frame counter display is also provided to keep track.

18 Triangular Facets (Icosahedron Has 21)Manufacturable Through Sheet Metal Processes.Bend Allowance, Locater Pins And Relief Notches Have Been Provided.

Kaluram Says HiScreen Printing on FabricGROUP PROJECT

Page 18: Navin Devnani-Torres Design Portfolio 2014

Kaluram is our friend and one of the many dogs on campus. The motif is originally an ink impression of his paw on paper. This was then scanned, digitized and arranged into a pattern for the screen.

After we were done printing the paws on a cotton fabric 2.5 metres in length, it was stitched into the garment in the photographs.

Objective: To create an outdoor space on the lawn adjacent to the college building, for lectures and discussions.

Bamboo: Design a space that maximizes the shade on the lawn throughout the day and at the same time showcases the dierent uses of bamboo as a material.

The B&W Project is a visual documentation of physical change. Our intention is to have scheduled individual photo shoots for all of the 158 students in our batch at MIT-ID at regular intervals and then compile them into a publication at the end of our four and a half year course.(Project in progress)
