  • Strategic partnering in today’s healthcare environment will determine the level of success many post-acute care providers achieve. Significant attention is focused on payor alliances, growth markets, coordinated clinical hand-offs and readmission reductions. In the midst of strategic planning for the next set of regulatory and reimbursement challenges, providers sometimes miss opportunities to discover ways to consistently provide proactive and personalized care at the bedside.

Ferris Mfg. Corp. is excited about our opportunity with Navigator Group Purchasing and its members to provide education, information and solutions to improve care and cost efficiencies at the bedside by promoting effective resolutions of skin and tissue traumas through the use of our unique PolyMem® dressings.

In the coming weeks and months, we will share solutions presented to us by clinicians with experience managing wound care and skin-related problems. We’ll show you how to control or decrease the expense of advanced wound care treatments, manage the labor component of wound care and reduce the “size of the shelf” by utilizing fewer, more versatile multifunctional wound care products. Following these practices will help you improve the overall wounded patient experience.

Talk with your customers to discover if they would like to improve the bedside experience for their patients by:

    a. Improving the dressing change process their patients currently experienceb. Decreasing the pain and discomfort currently experienced during dressing changesc. Increasing the level of patient/caregiver independence related to dressing changesd. Learning more about managing and resolving different types of skin and tissue

    trauma

Contact us to learn how we can provide opportunities for clinicians across the country to interact and present their own case studies on successes and barriers to wound treatment and resolution.

  • We are proud to announce our contract with MHA as of May 1, 2015

Restorative Medical designs and manufactures medical splints and braces that are created specifically to treat patients who suffer from lost range of motion resulting from immobility, and diagnoses like cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and end stage Alzheimer’s disease.

Our products are unique because instead of trying to lock a patient into a position or hold them in a particular plane, we encourage movement. Restorative Medical's splints and braces have a low load stretch with a spring-back effect that allows the patients to flex into their contractions with mild resistance, and then brings them back to the set position once muscle inhibition – relaxation – is reached.

All of our products are designed and manufactured in Brandenburg, Kentucky. We take pride that our products are made in the USA by people local to Brandenburg. Please contact us with any questions.

Unilever Margarine Production Disruption Expected January – March, 2016

Due to unexpected volume spikes for Unilever’s Promise, Country Crock, and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter (ICBINB) products, Unilever is having to make immediate plans to increase production.

Unilever has planned to add additional equipment to their current production line in January 2016. This will require production of these products to stop, while the new equipment is being installed. Once installed, it will take up to an additional 60 days to reach full production capacity again. As a result, during the months of January, February and March, these products will be available in limited quantities and customers will most likely experience shortages to their orders.

Unilever is expecting their January fill rate for Promise to be less than 30%. Unilever has little to no inventory available on Country Crock and ICBINB, and unfortunately, there are no other Unilever branded 5 gram products to fill this gap.

We will continue to monitor the situation and keep our customers informed.

We recommend the comparable Foodbuy-contracted products listed below as possible substitutions for Unilever items.

Gluten-Free CheeriosOur cereal partner, General Mills, has consistently responded to consumer demands to optimize the nutritional content of their cereals. Over the years, they have lowered sugar and sodium, and they recently announced that five Cheerios varieties are gluten free.

With 1/3 of Americans trying to cut back or avoid gluten in their diets* these cereals meet our Members’ need for gluten-free options at breakfast.

The change applies to all formats including bulk, cup and bowlpak packaging. No changes to manufacturer identification numbers or pack sizes will occur.

Look to menu these gluten-free varieties today:

Yoplait OriginalGeneral Mills, recently lowered Original Yoplait yogurt’s sugar by 25% in all 4oz and 6oz varieties. The sugar reduction is the latest in product improvement from Yoplait. In 2009, Yoplait began sourcing milk from cows not treated with artificial growth hormones. In 2012 high fructose corn syrup was eliminated from the recipes. In 2014, aspartame was removed from Yoplait Light.

This latest accomplishment aligns with Foodbuy’s recognition of the important role wellness plays in the lives of today’s consumers.

CAULIFLOWER / BROCCOLI The early end to California’s growing season due to extreme heat/drought, coupled with recent cold weather and icing in the Yuma, Arizona growing region, is causing a prolonged shortage of both broccoli and cauliflower. Broccoli quality is fair and pricing is higher than usual. Cauliflower quality is fair with much higher pricing than usual, and in some instance orders are being shorted.
