Navigating the FAR 2

What Is the FAR?• A set of guidelines for governing the

acquisition process• Public agencies implement legislation through

regulations such as the FAR.• The FAR combined previous Department of

Defense and civilian agency procurement regulations.



How Is the FAR Organized?• The basic regulation is in Parts 1

through 51, each part dealing with a different subject.

• The clauses and provisions are in Part 52, each one preceded by a reference to the instruction for using it.

• The requisite forms are in Part 53.



How Do I Find the FAR?• The official FAR site is:

https://www.acquisition.gov/far/index.html• The GSA FAR Secretariat publishes the FAR

on behalf of the 3 issuing agencies.• The regulation is codified in Title 48 of the

Code of Federal Regulations.• The FAR is also available at http://farsite.hill.af.mil
