Navy last to mandate DDS Direct Deposit, the pay delivery sys­

tem that electronically sends your pay to the bank or credit union of choice, will soon shed its label as an optional pay method and become mandatory.

The Navy will become the last of the armed services to opt for all Direct Deposit, or DDS, five years behind the Marine Corps.

Beginning July 15, anyone entering the Navy, reenlisting, extending service, receiving a regular or reserve officer ap­pointment and reservists must enroll in DDS.

All reenlistees and officers accepting a regular appointment will be required to sign administrative remarks (a page 13 entry), promising to enroll in DDS.

All servicemembers not falling into one of the categories mentioned above can still receive their pay by government check - until they enter one of those categories.

"The bottom line is that the Navy wants this to be the way to go," said Petty Officer 1st Class Rich Munson, leading petty officer of the disbursing office at the personnel support detachment.
