    YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I am confident we have wonand the

    Navajo Community will remain

WHOLE!!!Today John Pilch, and I spoke in support of the RedistrictingCommissions decision to keep the Navajo Community together.

Although the final vote has not been taken, the Commissioners havnarrowed their map selection down to two; 4b and 5 b. Both map

have identical borders for the district that will include the Navajo

Community; basically it includes Navajo, Tierrasanta all ofMission Valley, and a portion of Linda Vista. Check the websitein the next couple of days to view the map (there may be 2 maps)

Below is the email John Pilch (President of the San Carlos Area Councilsent to his members this afternoon)

Good Afternoon: As promised in an earlier update, Jay Wilson and I at-tended the Redistricting Commission (RC) meeting this morning in theSanta Fe Room in Balboa Park. It was called to order at 10:06 AM and weeach placed our comments on the public record. This was after we exam-ined the new maps, numbered 4-B and 5-B, both of which kept the NavajoCommunities and Tierrasanta, along with Mission Trails Regional Park, inthe same city council district. Both maps showed our district continuingwest through Mission Valley and include Serra Mesa, Birdland, the majorportion of Linda Vista and Mission Valley East and West. Jay and I alsoasked the Commissioners to not give map 6 any further consideration, es-pecially since SDSU treated Del Cerro and the other Navajo communitieswith disdain, after their plans for expansion were met with opposition fromNavajo. I also advised the Commissioners that we had little, if anything, incommon with Kensington and Talmadge, which would have been tied inwith Navajo by Map/Plan 6. We concluded by thanking the Commission-ers for listening to the speakers who spoke about keeping Navajo intact.

Following public comments, a suggestion was made by the mapping con-

sultants to exclude Plan/Map 6 from further discussions. The Commission-ers were polled and agreed that Map/Plan 6 would no longer be consid-ered. Please recall that Map 6 included communities south of I-8 in ourdistrict and would have moved Tierrasanta and Miramar East to what isnow District 5. Following that agreement by Commissioners, they concen-trated on moving communities between Districts 3 and 4 and the new one,District 9. Since none of this would have an effect on Navajo, Jay and I left

about 1 PM. Hopefully the semi-final map will be ready for the next RC

    meeting on Tuesday.

Thanks to everyone who attended to address the RC at one or more meet-ings. Comments made in person carried a lot of weight, per our conversa-

tions with several Commissioners. Thanks also to everyone who sent an e-mail and/or letter to the RC to keep Navajo together in one district.

We hope your evening is more enjoyable with this news.

Regards, John Pilch (and Jay Wilson) Page 2 of 3
