Rarely available on the market and highly sought after, the Nautitech 44 could be just whatyou are looking for. Built by Bavaria to compete with Beneteau’s popular Lagoon range,Bavaria decided to go for a more aggressive approach and with the cutting edge style ofdesigners Mortain & Mavrikios, strived to bring into the world a catamaran that is at oncepleasing to the eyes with its almost Gun Boat lines, provide unbeatable comfort andseaworthiness, while also focusing on sailing capabilities.

Attention to quality is visible in every detail, from the quality of stainless steel to the glassand resin used, general and deck hardware, choice of spars manufacturer etc. (It is good toremember that the launch of this Nautitech 44 happened before the GFC, whichdramatically altered the production boat market, and when meeting a price point was less ofan issue). To stand out from the boxier catamaran style used by other multihullmanufacturers, then went for a more feline profile with fluid lines that inspire speed andprovide adherence to the water without compromising on the hull freeboard, allowing for asmooth motion in the seaway and to minimise ‘slapping’ and ‘hobby horsing’.

Well-liked are the twin helms, which very much like the Outremer gives the helmsman a realsense of sailing, a great view of the sails and when coming into port an unbeatable positionto edge into a marina berth with full control and visibility no matter which side is the dock,something that many single helm steering or flybridge designs often makes more difficult.

In spite of the ongoing changes that Nautitech catamarans have seen over the followingyears, the original models, such as this magnificent 2009 Nautitech 44 have never lost theirstrong following. This style will not go old, the quality of the build will ensure many years ofsafe cruising, while also being attractively priced for a multihull of this calibre.

Other than the very German approach to the quality of build and the luxurious, magnificentinterior, perhaps the most attractive side of the Nautitech 44 is its ability to please the mosthell-bent monohull aficionados. It is a responsive, good performance catamaran that is a realpleasure to sail. One can feel the surge forward and the eagerness of the boat to ‘get going’.It is a joy to helm for those who would rather switch off the autopilot and feel the boatrespond to the tip of their fingers on the wheel.

‘nuwan2’ could be just what you are looking for. Lovingly maintained by her Belgian-German owners since the very beginning, she presents in exceptional condition and wouldsuit a very discerning buyer.

Since sailing from La Rochelle into the Med, her intrepid and knowledgeable owners havesailed her for thousands of happy miles, across the Pacific, exploring Brazil, Surinam andFrench Guinea, the Caribbean and Cuba, then the USA East coast and across the InterCostal Waterways, San Blas and Panama before venturing into the Pacific, falling in lovewith French Polynesia and settling there ever since.
