shore fishingWith the greatest tidal range of the continent, the sea around the Manche coast sometimes goes out an astonishingly long way. Such low tidesprovide an unequalled source of marine life, giving pleasure to lovers of seafood: shellfish (cockles and many other clams...), crustaceans (crab,shrimp, prawn…) and fish (sole, plaice…).

The islands and peninsula of Cotentin offer many fishing grounds accessible by boat oron foot. The east and west coasts are a mixture of sandy beaches, shellfish farms and rockyheadlands, whereas the north is a wild rocky coast. The islands of Tatihou, Ecrehou, Minquiers,and Chausey are beautiful places with plenty of great fishing.

The top category rivers, the Sée and the Sélune, are the principal salmon fishing courses in Manche, seconded by the Sienne and the Couesnon.The Vire, the Saire and the Douve all see sea trout and shad, whereas the rivers of the Regional Park of Cotentin and Bessin Marshes - the Taute,the Merderet, the Sèves and various canals - are home to predators and whitefish.
