Addendum to Registration Packet: 2020 Outdoor Adventure Program (Summer Program During COVID-19) – Camp Lovewell

DHHS-Approved Emergency Child Care Program Camp Lovewell is proud to announce that it is now officially designated as a NH DHHS approved Emergency Child Care Program during the 2020 season.

Per Governor Sununu's Stay at Home 2.0 for Day Camps: "Day camp attendees are restricted to children who are New Hampshire residents or out of state campers who have met a 14 day quarantine requirement"

Handbook Edits Significant edits have been made to the 2020 Camper Policies & Procedures Handbook. All registered families are expected to read the latest revisions and familiarize themselves with these changes to the 2020 season, per state guidance.

Registration & Enrollment We are accepting registrations for the 2020 season, as normal. The State of NH has lifted restrictions and we are now able to serve all families, including those considered “non-essential” workers. Due to government mandates, including social distancing and reduced group size protocols, program spots may be limited this summer. All registration is accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis. Submission of program tuition and registration fee payments are required, as normal, to hold a child’s spot.

Extended Care Until further notice, we have revised our extended day option hours to 7:00 am - 5:00 pm, in keeping with our temporarily adjusted campus operations hours.

Health & Safety Nature's Pathways at 2nd Nature Academy and Camp Lovewell are keeping up with the latest health and safety recommendations made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and American Camp Association (ACA), as well as NH state mandates.

Additional considerations that are being developed into our 2020 summer program include: • implementing social distancing strategies, • intensifying cleaning, • increasing disinfection, • improving camper hygiene protocols, • modifying drop off and pick up procedures, • implementing screening procedures upon arrival, • and maintaining low camper to counselor ratios.

NH DHHS does not recommend children wear masks or face coverings due to: • CDC guidance • safety issues which can pose choking or strangulation hazards • effectiveness being impacted by improper handling and misuse by children • the counter-productive nature of staff needing to be in increasingly close contact with children to provide

assistance with face coverings

Program Activities

Although we are still awaiting updated mandates and/or recommendations from our state government, please note that certain camp activities may be restricted in the 2020 season. We will include updates on our website, accordingly.

Kayaking & Pond Swimming: Camper Life Safety Vests Due to health, safety, and hygiene guidance in the 2020 season, any camper who wishes to kayak and/or swim in the pond is responsible for providing his/her own “safe for use” personal flotation device (PFD), per ACA guidelines. “Safe for use” means that PFDs are:

1. US Coast Guard-approved; 2. Of proper type*, size, and fit for each user; 3. Sufficiently buoyant to support designated weight; and 4. In serviceable condition (clasps, zippers, and so on are in working condition).

*Approved types: USCG-approved Type I, II, III, or V If a camper's PFD does not fit the aforementioned criteria, he/she will not be permitted to swim or kayak in the pond. All non-swimmers are still expected to provide a US Coast Guard-approved PFD for all pool and pond activities.

Refunds & Credits Absences due to a camper and/or household member contracting coronavirus (with documentation provided by a physician of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis) will be eligible for a refund or credit. Our standard policy applies to all other absences and/or withdrawals. The annual registration fee ($25) is non-refundable. Please make separate payments for registration fees and program payments.

Camp T-Shirts Although it remains our goal to provide official camp t-shirts for those campers registered by June 1, 2020, due to the current public health crisis and disruptions to our programs and other local services, we cannot guarantee that t-shirts will be provided this summer.

Parent/Guardian Agreement I acknowledge that I have read and agree to the terms set forth in the Addendum to The Nature of Things Summer Camps Registration Packet: 2020 Outdoor Adventure Program (Summer Program During COVID-19) – Camp Lovewell. I understand that the outdoor adventure summer program (typically run by Camp Lovewell) is being offered by Nature’s Pathways at 2nd Nature Academy, until further notice and based on State of NH determinations. I likewise understand that eligible enrollment, available spaces, and/or camp activities may be affected by State guidelines.

One of our goals at our summer camp programs is to provide all campers with a positive experience. In an effort to attain this goal, an environment of safety and comfort needs to exist. We feel this is an integral part of the learning process in our camps. All camp participants should read the following with their parent/guardian, and each parent/guardian should ensure that their child understands what is expected of them while at camp.

It is important that both the minor participant and his/her parent/guardian sign the conduct agreement with the intention of following it. This is to give the children a sense of agency and responsibility. For children who cannot yet sign/write their name, this may be skipped.

1. All campers need to respect other campers, staff, and themselves and be accepting of all individuals.

2. All campers need to respect camp/campus property and other campers’ property.

3. All campers need to follow the rules of camp.

4. Profanity, fighting, bullying as well as threatening, exclusionary, harassing, or disruptive behavior of any kind willnot be tolerated.

5. Smoking, and/or use or possession of drugs or alcohol at camp is strictly prohibited.

6. Weapons of any type including-knives, BB guns, firearms and ammunition, sharp sticks, etc. are strictly prohibited.

7. Each camper must be willing and cooperative in daily program planning.

8. Campers are responsible for taking care of their own belongings.

9. Campers are responsible for picking up trash and leaving buildings and property as they found them.

10. Campers are responsible for communicating needs, feelings, fears, etc. with instructors.

When a camper violates one of these rules, and allows others to be denied the full experience of camp, the following steps will be taken:

Step 1: Camper will be given a time-away from the group (take a breather) period.

Step 2: The Director will give the camper a warning and the parent/guardian will be notified.

Step 3: If the behavior or attitude has not improved within a time agreed upon the parent/guardian willbe notified and will need to make arrangements for the child to leave camp.
