Nature-based Solutions Addressing societal challenges with nature
The “Nature-based Solutions Journey” will take participants through a series of events, showcasing
the work of the IUCN Members, Secretariat, Commissions and partners, in assessing the work being
done on the different types of NbS interventions (e.g. ecological restoration, ecosystem-based
adaptation, mitigation and disaster risk reduction), and advancing NbS to address global societal
challenges. Come to this Journey to discover what IUCN and its members are doing on NbS, to be a
part of a community, develop and strengthen your networks, contribute to discussions, learn and be
part of the solution!

Nature-based Solutions
Nature Based Solutions (NbS) are actions to protect, manage, and restore natural or
modified ecosystems, which address societal challenges (e.g. climate change, food and
water security or natural disaster) effectively and adaptively, providing human well-
being and biodiversity benefits. The concept formally emerged in the late 2000s from
policy, when international organisations searched for solutions to use nature to address
societal challenges while protecting natural ecosystems and biodiversity and improving
sustainable livelihoods. Come to this Journey to discover what IUCN and its members
are doing on NbS, to be a part of a community, develop and strengthen your networks,
contribute to discussions, learn and be part of the solution!
