The idea behind the growing of turfgrass in a soil less, organic based medium is not new, however arriving at a balanced medium which provides adequate moisture and nutrient retention has always been the challenge.

EnviroTurf is established into composted green waste, amended with select nutrients and organic conditioners and then simply seeded or propagated with the required turfgrass variety. This entire process is simply established on an impermeable layer until mature and ready for lifting.

Due to the fact EnviroTurf is grown on this layer, we are not restricted in providing the client a turf product in any size or shape as the order is cut to size.

It is important to understand that EnviroTurf is not a turfgrass specie. It is an alternative growing method which provides an alternative and more versatile product. Conventional Turf and EnviroTurf can be the identical turfgrass specie, however the methodology in establishment and the end product are worlds apart.

Conventional turf is soil or sand based. EnviroTurf is soil less. When conventional turf is harvested, it is harvested with a conventional machine which can only cut at fixed dimensions. EnviroTurf is only restricted by the legal limits on transportation and what you can physically handle. It is totally custom grown. Conventional turf, due to the nature of turf harvesting, severs the root system off at ground level, delivering your turf with perhaps 25% of the root system still intact. EnviroTurf arrives onsite with 100% of it’s root system intact, therefore ensuring a much quicker establishment.

EnviroTurf is a product ideally suited to the landscape and civil engineering industries due to it’s unique characteristics which include the infinite range of shapes and sizes and it’s ability to follow any ground contour.

It’s applications in the sportsturf market stem directly from the versatility in sizes - a one piece golf green or a one piece cricket pitch !! The options are endless.

There are currently products and methods being used that deliver results of sorts in the varioustargeted industry sectors. Whilst conventional turfgrass is utilized in some areas, specifically that of the sportsturf sector, it is not a product looked at favourably in the larger civil applications due to it’s cost and limited size including restricted installation in many cases.

Standard practice in many civil projects is to utilize artificially manufactured synthetic blankets andmats in order to stabilize a batter or slope. These products obviously work, but are they the bestsolution. They are expensive, they can look very ordinary and some of these products take many years to break down, if in fact they do.

The other industry accepted standard is to use spray on seed, either in a water solution or a mulch based mix. This method is quick and inexpensive relative to conventional turf and in many sites, is far more practical, however the seed still requires time to germinate and establish and in the event of torrential or heavy rain just after seeding, erosion and rutting can occur and the job, in some circumstances, needs to be done again.
