The inventorNatural oxygenation•

A chemical engineer, student of the NobelPrize winner Victor Grignard, René Jacquierembarked on a research career. He coordinated work in several fields, such asantibiotics and penicillin extractionprocedures. But his main interest was always in thehormones, enzymes, vitamins and the biologicalphenomena which determine “the ideal state ofhealth”.

He applied his combined knowledge ofbiology, chemistry and physics to the extremecomplexity of ecosystems and life.

It is in this context that he launched the biocatalytic oxygenation concept thatis central to the Bol d’air Jacquier®. This technique of cellular oxygenationstimulates the self-regulation and healing process that already exists withineach of us.

Today, modern science confirms most of his theories, ones that wereelaborated more than 70 years ago.•

Why do we forget that oxygen is essential for life…?

No doubt it’s because we don’t realise there’s a problem… welack oxygen even though the air we breathe contains enough ofit to meet all our needs.

In the long term, increasing the quantity of oxygen we breathewould have a detrimental effect on our health, but a short sharpinhalation gives us a pleasant and euphoric sensation, withoutcausing any harm.

• The inventor developed the technique because he wasconcerned about the harmful effects of hypoxia (a lack ofoxygen within the cell): it’s a public health problem that affectsus all and gets worse with the weakening of our body due tolife style, stress, ageing, etc.

• The current Bol d’air® is the result of progress andtechnological innovation carried out over the past 25 years andmore. Published conclusions of recent scientific worksillustrate the importance of this simple and natural method andshow what a crucial role it could play in our modern world, now and in the future.

• The Bol d’air® is not a medicine and millions of people inFrance, Europe and all over the world use it every day!

Photosynthesis is the process through which plants capture carbondioxide (CO2) from the air and release oxygen. Some of this oxygenenables animals to breathe. Some of it is used to oxygenate organicmatter. The remainder is released into the atmosphere and used again by plants in their respiration phase. Therefore, the “footprint” of a forest, over several years, is almost zero. This means it consumes the same amount of oxygen as it generates. The Amazon forest is not the Earth’s lung.It is probably the ocean that plays the role of atmospheric oxygen regulator.

Plankton on the ocean surface forms an enormous biomass, much largerthan the terrestrial biomass, and the vegetal component of plankton (thephytoplankton) generates extremely large quantities of oxygen, alsothrough photosynthesis.

However, other recent studies prove that oxygen could also come frommajorite, a mineral capable of storing oxygen in the depths of the Earth’smantle.. As it approaches the earth’s surface, majorite breaks down andreleases its oxygen, which thus becomes available for oxidation reactionsthat are a precondition of life.Christian Ballhaus from the Mineralogy Institute at Bonn University.

Since the beginning of the Palaeozoic era, about 550 billion yearsago, an equilibrium has been created in the life cycle, maintainingthe oxygen rate in the atmosphere at about 21%, thusencouraging the development of animal life.

Today, despite the enormous additional consumption of oxygengenerated by Man for industry and transport, this huge reservoir ofoxygen still appears to be stable.

Oxygen is one of the basic elements of life on Earth

Oxygen keeps us alive

PLANET OXYGEN

It forms 21% of the air we breathe

Page 5: Natural oxygenation the Jacquier way

The body knows how to store food, but not how to build up oxygen reserves

Just five to ten minutes withoutoxygen and life stops! Our body

can survive several weeks without

food, a few days without water, but

it cannot survive without

breathing. In fact, breathing is thesource of the energy essential tothe functioning of our organs andthe metabolism of our body,Metabolism is the chain ofchemical reactions thatenables cell renewal and thepreservation of life. Deepwithin the tissue, oxygenhelps to transform nutrientsfrom food into energy.

Everything starts with inhalationThe air that surrounds us contains about 21% oxygen. When we inhale, it penetrates the airwaystravelling deep into the alveoli. Our lungs contain 300-450 million such tiny sacs with extremely finewalls and a surface area of 100 m2.

The gas exchanges occur through this wall and are irrigated by the blood capillaries: the oxygen from the airis distributed in the blood. At the same time, the blood releases the carbon dioxide it contains.

Haemoglobin assures its transportIn blood, more than 95% of the oxygen bonds to the haemoglobin, a protein consisting mainly of redblood cells, which serves as a carrier. Within the blood stream, haemoglobin releases oxygen which then penetrates the cells. In return, it captures the carbon dioxide, a waste product of cellular respiration, andtransports it to the lungs, where it is eliminated in the exhaled air.

A basic equation is therefore created: nutrients + oxygen = energy + carbon dioxide + water

OXYGEN, AT THE HEART OF OUR VITAL PROCESSES•

•We must breathe continuouslyto stay alive

The mitochondrion supplies the energy

This intracellular organelle is considered to be the power plant ofthe cell. This is where the final steps of the respiratory cycle takeplace, when the organic molecules generated during digestionare transformed into energy directly usable by the cell (ATP).In the presence of oxygen, a glucose molecule can generate 36energy units (ATP), whereas only 2 units are generated without it.

Oxygen in the body

A human being uses the equivalent of 30 kg of ATP/day…

Page 6: Natural oxygenation the Jacquier way

Hypoxia is the lack of oxygen at cellular level

Hypoxia

WHEN WE LACK OXYGEN…

The obstacle created by pollutants

Pollutants, present in the atmosphere of all urban or industrial areas, decreasethe quantity of oxygen present in the tissue. They coat the airways and slowdown gas exchanges. Some of them, such as carbon monoxide (CO) caneven replace the oxygen in the haemoglobin! In all cases, breathing efficiencyis diminished.

Besides that, there is the impact of our current life styles, where stress andemotional shock lead to a fall in blood pressure which means less efficientoxygenation.

Carbon monoxide (CO) intoxication is the main cause of toxic mortality in

France. Haemoglobin’s affinity with this gas is 230 times stronger than

with oxygen. The haemoglobin, deprived of its oxygen, can no longer act

as a carrier.

The decrease in life expectancy due to pollution has now been clearly

established.

• Hypoxia is not caused by an oxygen deficiency in the air, but rather by its insufficient assimilation within the tissue

••

Page 7: Natural oxygenation the Jacquier way

Oxygenation is capricious

Another possible cause of hypoxia: the modification of blood characteristics. In actual fact, even if it manages to capture its oxygen, the haemoglobin can only deliver it to the cells under certainconditions, more specifically conditions related to temperature, acidity (pH) or carbon dioxide content. Therefore, ifthe carbon dioxide content of the atmosphere exceeds 0.06%, it is sufficient to cause the body to start sufferingfrom hypoxia. This almost always occurs in big cities where the level oscillates between 0.09 and 0.14%.

Metabolism is altered

Oxygen deficiency in the tissue leads to a slowing down of energy production. Consequence: the biochemicalreactions needed for the assimilation and transformation of nutrients remain incomplete. Waste products are notcompletely eliminated and then accumulate, progressively poisoning the body. The brain and the central nervoussystem, the biggest consumers of oxygen, are the first to be affected by the decrease in available quantities ofoxygen. Consequently, several alarm signals are triggered: chronic fatigue, nervousness, memory disorders.

The cell suffers a double stress

Both an excess or a lack of oxygen are dangerous for the cell. The first generates free radicals, very reactive molecules that destroy organic structures.Hypoxia (lack of oxygen) goes even further…It causes a dysfunction of the mitochondrion which can no longer supply energy, thus generating free radicals inlarger quantities. Moreover, it leads to a deterioration of the anti-radical defence system / which means it creates adouble stress for the cell.

Disease sets in

If this hypoxia situation persists, most of the body’s functions are damaged. The loss of vitality leads to thedevelopment of pathologies such as heart and circulatory disorders, chronic hepatitis, atherosclerosis, or evenmore serious diseases such as cancer and other degenerative pathologies.

Hypoxia

The cell is in constant need of balanced oxygenation •

BREATHE MORE EFICIENTLY

How can we fight against hypoxia and stimulate theassimilation of oxygen by the cell? How can we improveboth its transport in the blood and its release into thetissue in order to assure an optimal cellular oxygenationin the body?

Aware of the fact that a simple increase in the quantityof oxygen breathed is not a solution, René Jacquiersearched for an easily accessible natural element thatcould become an oxygen carrier. He wanted to findsomething that was available on a sufficiently globalscale so that its longterm use would prove to beharmless.

He observed that since ancient times, sites associatedwith health have been located in the middle of pine andfir tree forests, so using his experience, he found theanswer to his questions in pine resin.

It is not a question of inhaling more oxygen, butabout allowing the cells to recover the oxygencirculating in the blood more efficiently

Alpha and beta-pinenes are used as an active ingredient or

excipient in more than 280 medicines and cosmetic products

Page 9: Natural oxygenation the Jacquier way

IMPROVES THE BIOAVAILABILITY OF THE OXYGEN WITHIN THE BODY

An active principle

Pine resin essence is particularly rich in unsaturated molecules (i.e. transformable molecules): the pinenes (belonging to the terpenes family)mainly contain alpha and beta-pinenes (the most widespread molecules in the world). They are used in medicine and in cosmetics for theirwell-known beneficial effects (antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, insecticide).

The Bol d’air®

These terpenes acquire new properties when they are transformed in theBol d’air®. They become oxygen carriers. Inside the body, they attach tohaemoglobin and become a biocatalyst.

Biocatalysis

It is a double mechanism: on the one hand, haemoglobin binds morereadily to oxygenated pinenes than to simple oxygen; on the other hand, oxygen transported in this way is more easily released into the tissue, in a“newly born” form, easily assimilated by the cell which uses it all.In the biocatalytic complex, the oxygen/haemoglobin binding is unstable.Oxygen is easily released to the cells. New oxygen can be captured againand restored. This cycle can last several hours.

Balanced oxygenation

The body is better oxygenated. The cell tends to use the oxygen that itneeds without the oxidative stress related to a lack or excess of oxygen. The mitochondrial function improves and generates more energy and animprovement in the anti-radical defence system.

RESEARCH PROVES THE BOL D’AIR’S POTENTIAL •Bol d’air® and oxygenation

Béatrice Mercier, PhD in Life Sciences and the Biochemistry of Cellular Oxygenation, has gatheredtogether comprehensive documentation on cellular oxygenation and the role of terpenic essences andthe advantages of the tetravalent form of oxygen generated by the Bol d’air Jacquier®. Her thesis, supported by the University of Burgundy and ratified by a prestigious jury has led to new thinking aboutthis unique method of tissue oxygenation. She is continuing her studies of the Bol d’air® with teams ofresearchers in several European countries.

Bol d’air® and free radicals

Scientific studies carried out at the University of Dijon demonstrate the role the Bol d’air® plays inincreasing the body’s capacity to control free radicals, in vivo and ex vivo. It’s not a question of ingestinga specific anti-free radical agent but more to do with the way in which the body’s overall capacity ofresistance is strengthened when the Bol d’air® is used. The Bol d’air® method is oxygenating but non-oxidizing unlike some other methods that are used to increase oxygen which carry the risk of causing thecells oxidative stress.Publications Béatrice Mercier, Josiane Prost and Michel Prost.

Bol d’air® and ageing

One of the foremost causes of ageing is the formation of free radicals. We already know that using the Bol d’air®

generates all-round free radical protection but in 2011 a new study showed that levels of glycated haemoglobin(high producers of free radicals) were reduced by the action of the Bol d’air®.Béatrice Mercier / International Journal of Occupational Medecine and Environnemental Health.

Bol d’air®, nutrition and obesity

In 2003, Italian researchers, nutritionists, endocrinologists and clinicians P. De Cristofaro,A. Pietrobelli and N.C. Battistini, spoke about the role oxygenation played in the field ofobesity: their studies, presented at the International Congress in San Diego USA (classifiedFASEB), the Congress on Obesity in Helsinky and the World Congress on Obesity inPrague, show that using the Bol d’air® reduces both body fat and increases lean bodymass significantly when compared with a control group. Since then the Bol d’air® has beenused in specialist centres in Italy as a natural supplement during the treatment of obesityand metabolic disorders.

Influence of the Bol d’air® on the metabolism of sportspeopleProfessor De Cristofaro has shown that during constant effort tests, a sports person’srespiratory quotient (RQ) can diminish significantly after a 6 minute respiratory session. This indicates that the Bol d’air® is acting on the metabolism and helping to use up bodyfat. This is of considerable interest to sports people and to those who are overweight.

Bol d’air® and top level sportDoctor Andrea Lino, a specialist in sports medicine and Professor of Human Physiology atthe University of La Sapienza in Rome, has observed the remarkable effects of the Bol d’air® on explosive force, muscular elasticity and endurance amongst competitiveswimmers.

Bol d’air® and energyESP Consulting, an independent research laboratory, has evaluated the effects of Bol d’air® inhalations onhealthy sports people. Training had a very noticeableeffect on both groups in terms of metabolism andrespiration, but there was a notable improvement in theBol d’air® users in respect of at least three criteria:

• After 10 weeks’ training, maximum breathing capacityduring exercise went up by 2.5% for the controlgroup and by 9.3% for the Bol d’air® group.

• After the same lapse of time max VO2 went down by2.8% for the control group and went up by 5.5% forthe Bol d’air® group.

• Exhaustion levels after training went down by 9.5%for the control athletes and decreased by 36.6% for the Bol d’air® group. This improvement shows thatthe Bol d’air® is a great aid to recovery afterstrenuous exercise.

That’s why sports people at all levels use the Bol d’air®

in their training programmes.

A natural method

•For teenagers during exam periods, periods ofstress, for all those who want to live better and agemore healthily: use the Bol d’air® every day, as apart of normal life. A few minutes are enough…

During the change of seasons, cold weather, heatwaves, excessive humidity, low sunshine hours, confinement inside buildings, periods of pollendispersion or pollution peaks, when the body hasless resistance and becomes more vulnerable toviral or bacterial activity, as well as to fatigue.

A minimum treatment lasting three weeks, at themost strategic moments, will bring significantbenefits.

During the “accidents” of life that can weaken thephysical or psychological defence systems:operations, mourning, severe anxiety, lack of sleep.

Before doing any sport. When dieting. To increase the benefits of other treatments.

Warning:This is not a medicinal product and can’t be compared to a medical treatment. For people with severe reactions: asthmatic, spasmophilic, allergic, hyperthyroid… they need to build up usemore gradually. Some very rare cases of allergic reaction to the chemical family of alpha and beta pinenes have been reported. For cases of terpene-dependent epilepsy, there is a contra indication to the Bol d’air®.Not recommended during pregnancy and while breast feeding. Not to be used by children under 36 months old.Medical advice required.
