13

Market Opportunity

The global medical marijuana market is expected to reach a value of USD 55.8 billion by 2025. With the likes of North America, South America, Europe and the Middle East leading the way, more regulatory framework is relaxed and the sudden need and urge for available medicinal marijuana products is forecasted to increase drastically.

The North American marijuana market alone grew by an unprecedented 30% in 2016 to $6.7 billion as the legal market expands in the U.S. and Canada, according to a report by Arcview Market Research. North American sales are projected to top $20.2 billion by 2021 assuming a compound annual growth rate of 25%.

According to extracts taken from a report done by the University of Sydney and MGC Pharmaceuticals, the extracts outline the forecasted and potential demand for cannabis based products in Australia. With reference to the treatment of HIV, MS, Epilepsy, and Cancer, the report forecasts approximately 166.6 kg of THC demanded per annum and approximately 404.7 kg of CBD.

If Australia were to emulate the medicinal cannabis regulations of the Netherlands or Canada, which as Australia begins to lower the red tape that surrounds the Medicinal Marijuana space looks to be more of a possibility then ever before, it would initially need to provide at least 8,000 kg of cannabis to patients per annum.

Today’s CBD oil wholesale price can range from $25-$50 per gram. According to JDL they can produce CBD oil at a cost of $2-$5 per gram providing gross margins approaching 90%:

The exclusive Collaboration and Licensing deal brings together two leading companies with seasoned management teams, technology and expertise in proprietary and controlled biomass growing technologies with a fully licensed non-synthetic and IP-protected cannabis-based development and production company;

The deal will enhance Algae.Tec's existing product streams and supply channels and give it near-term entry into the burgeoning cannabis-based products markets;

The optimisation of Algae.Tec's containerised growing system for cannabis-based products will provide for a highly controlled, replicable, portable growing system that will enable traceability and verification of products from plant to user;

Based on peer-comparisons this represents the cheapest entry into a cannabis based market on the ASX.
