Before the invention of the Electric Arc lamp outdoor lighting was achieved
using natural gas piped into luminaires. They often times burned twenty four
hours a day but when they were “turned off” for cleaning and maintenance they
were re-mantled and then started using a long pole with a wick on the end. As
you can imagine these lighting fixtures did not produce much light but they
became iconic in the forms that they took. Sternberg Lighting has re-mastered
the style and function of this classic Victorian era fixture using modern fittings
and materials while preserving the look of turn of the century America.

Sternberg Gas Lights come in three basic historical shapes. The Bristol series eight sided lantern, gives a regal appearance with its multi-faceted housing design spiked roof and top vent cap. The scrolled housing supports attach the fixture housing to the pole top and serve to create a floating appearance.
The Sussex is a classic four sided design with the same scroll housing supports. The beveled roof design adds style and symmetry to this luminaire while giving needed space for ventilation. The cupola can be adorned with brass finials for added styling.
Lastly, the Victoria I & II complete the offering with a rounded shape, glass, painted or copper top and a generous cupola vent and finial. The round shape allows for a more efficient exit of light from the luminaire. Having no cage the lit mantles or open flame can be seen from any angle.

Dual Inverted Burner
Dual Inverted burner option provides downward facing mantles that produce 2100 BTU and 834 lumens of illumination.
Triple Inverted Burner
Triple Inverted Burner option provides downward facing mantles that produce 3450 BTU and 1251 lumens of illumination.
Open Flame Burner
Flame burners give an authentic look to Natural Gas luminaires and provide a more traditional look than mantle options. Open flame burner option provides 2200 BTU of upward facing flame designed to mimic Victorian burner designs. Options include a single flame, Dual or split flame and also a tri-flame design. Flame size can be easily adjusted using a flat blade screwdriver.
