  • Nature and technology…. the ultimate teamBack in the early 80’s we began re-

search on alternatives for teak decks.

    Many different options were investi-

gated, including all kinds of abrasive

    pvc’s.

The focus of our investigation was

    on durability, comfort, non-skid, easy

    to clean, limited maintenance and

    ease of installation compared to

    teak.

    From the very beginning, natural

cork was our first choice as a base

    material. Research convinced us of

    our decision.

Millions of natural cells generate advantages over any other materialCork is the given name to the

    suberose parenchyma, or bark of

the cork oak tree of the beech

    family. Cork is highly homogenous,

    consisting almost entirely of

    cellular membranes through which

no channels run. The cork tissue is

formed from dead cells. Each cork

cell consists of a minimal quantity

of solid materials and a maximum

    of gaseous materials, essentially

    atmospheric air but also containing

    carbon dioxide. One cubic centime-

ter contains about 40 million cells.

    Cork granules are excellent thermal

insulators and can reduce heat loss

by 36% or lower temps by 53%. The

use of cork in protective heat shields

of the space shuttle is one of the

    most exciting cork applications.

TechnologyTo utilize all of the advantages and

properties of cork, a high-end hybrid

    synthetic binder was developed.

    Production facilities employ integra-

    ted and continuous volume/weight

    control, specialty tools, and high-

    pressure machinery to create the

    required density.

    This approach generates uniform

    quality during the entire produc-

    tion process. The hybrid composite

is called ACMEC® and is one of our

    registered trademarks.

It’s the natural durability and comfort that matters

MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR on any surfaceThe finished product has proven to

    exceed our expectations in resisting

    exposure to natural elements and

    most chemicals. MARINEDECK

2000®EXTERIOR has stood the test of

    time in extreme conditions.

Installation is possible on any flat

    surface, in any marine environment,

whether it is steel, aluminium, wood

    or glass/carbon fiber reinforced

    materials.

Available in planks/strips/sheet and ready-to-install-sheetMARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR is available

    in standard sized planks/strips of

1880 mm long by 36 mm, 50 mm,

75 mm and 125 mm wide (74” long

    by 1 ½”, 2”, 3” and 5” wide).

    Ready-to-install-sheet is available

with plank widths of 36, 50 and

    75 mm (1 ½”, 2” and 3”), with glue

channels. Standard sizes as from 360

    mm - 525 mm (14”-20 ½”) by 1880

mm or 940 mm (74” or 37”) long.

MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR prefabs To reduce labor and installation time,

we and a number of our world wide

    AMS’s (Authorized MARINEDECK

    2000® Specialists) also offer prefabri-

cated decks. The shape/sizes of these

    prefabricated decks are provided

    either by CAD drawing, from

    polyester film, or cardboard

templates. Please see at page 7.

    Easy installation

    Installation of strips/planks substan-

    tially reduces the overall installation

    cost compared with traditional wood

    decks. Installation of ready-to-install-

    sheet reduces installation costs even

    more.

    Over the years many yacht

    owners have chosen a

    MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR

    installation based upon the

    recommendations of friends or

    the results from independent tests,

    conducted by various marine

    organizations and magazines around

    the world. MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR

    is invariably judged superior

because of its non skid and

insulation properties as well as the

    low maintenance and durability.

Traditional boatsThe Netherlands has a long history

of seafaring and boating and it is

no surprise that a Dutch company

    developed MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR.

    The traditional appearance and

    ease of maintenance have made

    MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR the choice

    of traditional boats and vintage

yachts, found from the Dutch canals

to the high seas. Because of the ease

of installation and all other important

    advantages, MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR

is now very often chosen over

    traditional teakwood.

Sailing boats, yachts and catamaransOwners of sailing yachts

    often set high standards for

    weight, non skid performance

    and durability. Another

    important factor is the

    insulation properties of

    MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR,

    which provides extra

    comfort when installed

    on the seats as well

    as decks.

    Sailing yachts with a

    MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR

    installation have received

    much praise at boat shows

    and numerous awards for

    design application.

Cruise ships, rivers cruisers and ferriesA few years ago the Department

    of Marine Technology at the

University of Delft in the Netherlands

    published an independent report

listing many of the advantages of

    MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR. Since

    that report was published many

    naval architects and designers

    worldwide have been attracted to

    the use of MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR.

    The extreme durability, attractive

    appearance and easy maintenance

of this product have made it the

choice for the high traffic areas

    aboard these vessels.

Mega YachtsThe extreme high level comfort of

the “soft touch” when walking or

    laying on MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR

    influenced many naval architects,

captains and owners to choose this

    product. These properties are the

    result of the natural characteristics

of the cork itself which is made up

of millions of cells. When exposed to

    extreme high or low temperatures

    MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR remains

    comfortable. A natural high tech

    combination provided by nature.

    Saltwater resistanceMARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR has passed

    all tests on saltwater resistance,

    including extended periods in

    continuously changing temperatures

and immersed in sea water with an

    extremely high salt content.

    UV resistanceMARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR has been

successfully tested in the field and in

    laboratory environments exposed to

    high UV radiation.

All weather resistance MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR is not

affected by temperatures from - 40°C

    up to +45°C (-40°F up to +113°F).

This has been tested in waters from

the Antarctic to Australia and the

    Caribbean to New England.

    Prefabricated decksMARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR is also

    available in prefabricated panels.

    Specific information is available.

Strong and fl exibleDrop your hardware or put a chair

    on it. MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR is

built to take it. Dents bounce back

after a short period of time.

Sound and temperature insulationMARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR is one of

    the very best insulators available

    and consequently reduces vibrations

    and temperature tremendously. The

    average sound and temperature

insulation is 15 times higher than

    teakwood. Standard 9 mm (3/8”)

    MARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR has

    the same insulation properties

    as 13.5 cm (5 ½”) of teakwood.

    Non skid propertiesMARINEDECK 2000®EXTERIOR has

    excellent non-skid properties.

    Recent tests by an independent

    organization proved the non-skid

ability with a 60 kg (132 lb.) weight

at an angle of 40° in a dry environ-

ment and at an angle of 38° in a wet

environment, as one of the very best.

Personal or business logosMany yachts and cruise ships have

their own insignia or logo. Any design

can be made and incorporated into

the deck. Our NC router can read

    most CAD programs and produces

a product to satisfy the most

    demanding customer.
