The safe and natural way for fast, effective hemostasis GELITA MEDICAL has developed a superior range of biodegradable topical hemostats that help surgeons stop capillary, venous and arteriolar bleeding effectively when conventional methods are ineffective or im-practical. Natural gelatin is a pure collagen protein, which is one structural element of human tissue. GELITA-SPON® products are made of pharmaceutical-grade gelatin, which has been classified by the FDA as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe).

All products in the GELITA SPON® range can be left in place, ensuring patient comfort without any risk of encapsulation; no clinical

signs of granuloma formation have been reported. They are all pH-neutral, conse-quently they work as an ideal carrier for drugs. Their neutral character minimizes tissue reaction; no negative neurological effects have been reported even when used in procedures involving sensitive areas such as the nervous system.

GELITA-SPON® products are sterilized by gamma irradiation, are insoluble in water and fully biodegradable. GELITA-SPON® products have no intrinsic hemostatic ac-tion, but instead induce hemostasis through their intensely porous structure. This allows

GELITA-SPON® sponge formats to absorb more than 40 times of their own weight in blood and fluids. As they fill with blood, the products stop bleeding by forming a clot on the wound surface, and platelet aggregation is enhanced through surface contact. A ma-trix is formed, which supports the natural process of the coagulation cascade.

Depending on the method of use and the operation site, GELITA-SPON® is completely biodegraded in less than 4 weeks.

GELITA-SPON® RAPID3 is an innovative new high-performance hemostat: It can be used straight out of the package and be applied dry directly to the wound without wetting first, saving precious time in the operating theater.

It absorbs fluid instantly, up to three times faster than other conventional hemostatic products* – a significant improvement – while retaining its consistency even when saturated.

GELITA-SPON® RAPID3 delivers rapid hemostasis (more than 2 x faster

compared to a STANDARD Gelatin sponge)*. The innovative struc-ture of the sponge, with its high surface roughness in the nanorange, offers enhanced cap-

illary effects and an outstanding hemostatic performance.

Absorbable Gelatin Powder Hemostat, USP

GELITA-SPON® POWDER can be applied dry in powder form, or as a paste mixed with saline solution. Different consistencies and grades of viscosity can be achieved by varying the powder-to-fluid ratio for optimum use on irregular structures, such as bone, and for filling any cavity or fissure as required.

Surgeons and Operating Room staff benefit from the product’s supreme flexibility, adaptability and easy handling. GELITA-SPON® POWDER can be applied by hand or with a standard syringe to areas that are hard to reach. It is adhesive, especially when applied in sternotomy and craniotomy procedures, it is not known to cause bone dehiscence unlike conventional bone waxes*.
