    Objectives:To raise the awareness regarding pesticide related

    issues and its wise use.

    To provide basic and practical trainings to adopt

    modern agricultural practices in increasing crop

    production.

    To educate Farmers in the field of IPM.

    Introduce all alternate measures to reduce the use of

    hazardous chemicals in crop production.

    To aware the farmers regarding soil fertility problems,

    degradation of natural resources and balance use of

    fertilizers.

    ACTIVITIES

    Established one cotton ToF and ten FFS in 2006 in Disrict Sanghar with the collaboration of SindhOn Farm Water Management (PMP-project) & Agriculture Extension Sindh.

    Run seven FFS in 2004 in Disrict Sanghar on voluntary basis.

    Conducted various seminars and trainings to growers and field staff of agriculture extension togive the awareness about IPM program

    Conducted field experiments regarding micronutrient application in cotton and onion crops in2006 with the collaboration of 4B Fertilizers (Pvt.) Pakistan

    NAFO currently running eight mango FFS in Distt. Sanghar i.e. in 2007.

    NAFO will also run 60 cotton FFS in 2007 in distt. Sanghar with the collaboration of AgricultureExtension Sindh & SOFWM Sindh.

    Research Activities

    3-NAFO, with the collaboration of SOFWM, has beenintroducing the LASER land leveling system on

    experimental basis in five villages of taluka SinjhoroDistt. Sanghar since October 2007.

    Each experiment has been conducted on five acreplot and total land 25 acres has been leveled.

    The data regarding saving of irrigation water,fertilizer and crop yield will be collected andcompared with traditional or farmer plots.

    1-PB Rope-L (sex pheromone)

    PB-Rope Application gave an excellent control on

    pink bollworm, early boll formation & maturity, morebeneficial insects, quality seed cotton and 5-7mds/acre increased yield as compared to farmerplot.

    2-Bio pesticides

    Application of Bio pesticides gave significant controlagainst sucking complex, found economic and safe toenvironment and beneficial insects.

    As a repellent; the Bio pesticides were found helpful in

    repelling the bollworms, whereby early boll formation,less flower shedding, more beneficial insects, and 3-5mds/acre increased yield was achieved as compared tofarmer plot.

    3-Reduction in the use of pesticides:

    Due to the dissemination of IPM technology and theawareness given through ToF & FFS, many growers ofdistrict Sanghar have reduced the use of chemicalpesticides on cotton by 20-30%.

    Even some growers have received 15-20 mds/acre cottonyield without using any chemical pesticides. They usuallyused neem oil, kerosene oil, detergent and extract oftobacco leaves against harmful insects.
