All ships that register with MSCHOA areentered onto a Vulnerable Shipping List everyday at MSCHOA.
The MNLO unit tracks all transit vessels whoseETAs are not consistent with the group timingsand emails them directly to advise them to
adjust ETA at the IRTC, or to advise their transitintentions
MSCHOA advise all ships Masters via email andby tel. of the other ships accompanying themboth Eastbound and Westbound in their group
All of this policing is vital providesreassurance of situational surveillance

Counter Piracy Missions
NATO Deter and disrupt piracy to the maximum extent possible
Protect vulnerable shipping
Provide presence and reassurance in the JOA to enhance the general safetyand security of commercial traffic in the region
CMF
Conduct counter piracy operations in the CMF battle space under a missionbased mandate to actively deter, disrupt and suppress piracy in order tosupport UNSCR resolutions, protect global maritime commerce, enhancemaritime security and secure freedom of navigation for the benefit of allnations
EU
Protect WFP shipping, other vulnerable shipping, deter and, subject tosuitable arrangements for prosecution being in place, arrest pirates/armedrobbers in the AOO, for the duration of two years, after the declaration of IOC(13 Dec 08)

CITADEL
Definition:
A Citadel is a designated pre-planned area specificallybuilt into the ship where; in the event of imminent boardingby pirates, all crew will seek refuge and protection with theobjective of preventing the pirates from gaining control of
the vessel. Such a space would probably have, but not belimited to: command and control capability of the vessel, itsown self-contained air-conditioning; emergency rations;water; supply; good external communications; emergencyshut down capability for the main and auxiliary engines;and remotely operated CCTV cameras.
