    MARCH 2013 Newsletter

    GLORY BE TO JESUS CHRIST!

    GLORY BE FOREVER!

HOLY SEASON OF GREAT LENT: The Holy Seasonof Great Lent Begins for us Orthodox Christians on

Monday March 18th. This is a time of preparation for

the feast of the Resurrection of Christ! It is a time of

renewed devotion for fasting, prayer, and alms-giving. It

is a time of repentance a renewal of our minds, hearts,

and deeds in conformity with the teachings of the

church. It is a time when we connect to the greatest of

the commandments of loving God and our neighbor. Let

us find the time to make an effort to attend as many

Church services as we can and approach the Sacrament

of Penance in a meaningful way.

General Confession: General Confession during the

month of March will be held on Sunday March 10th.

This time is different for only the month of March. Our

next General Confession will be held on the first Sunday

    of June.

ALL SOULS SATURDAY: The custom of announcing

the names of the deceased during liturgical services can

be traced back to the first century of Christianity. This

venerable custom was transmitted to us by ourancestors as part of our spiritual heritage. Every year

before Meat-Fare Saturday (March 9th this year)

families give the name of their departed loved ones so

Father John can mention them at the five All Souls

Saturdays held for the deceased. If you would like to

have your deceased family members names read pleasesee Matushka Ludmila at the candle desk to fill out the

    form.

SPECIAL THANKS: Each month we are fortunate to

have a luncheon in our parish home for the benefit of

good Christian fellowship. For our parish this is a way

to break bread together and enjoy each otherscompany. It is also a way to raise some additional funds

for our parish. The parishioners of Saint Marys would

like to extend our thanks to Joanna Baronowsky who

has each month made a generous donation to support

these dinners so that the church can realize a profit.

We also would like to extend our sincere thanks toSubdeacon Michael Morvay who purchased all of the

food products for our February Luncheon and to

Matushka Donnalynn and Nadja Schmidt for cooking

and preparing our Tricky Tray. Special Thanks to Joe
