Native Medicare Charitable Trust after completing it’s 23 years of social commitment continue to work and practice to improve the quality of life and to the development of the potentials of individuals, groups and communities of the society.

Our endeavor on child welfare including their health, education especially for orphaned, children infected/affeced by HIV/AIDS and other vulnerable children are carried on with the support of the stakeholders and donors.

Community development among the Tribals Slum dwellers and other underserved communities goes on with continues process of capacity building and income generation activities, aiming at poverty alieviation.

Social Change and quality life is motivated among the transgenders in order to bring social welfare and development among them.

From the Director's Desk…..

I am extremely happy to present before you our Annual Report for the year 2010 – 11. This report will give you glimpses of our major programs and activities carried out in this year.

In the current year 2010-11, the Adivasi Development Initiative Project has undergone a new phase out with the support of Tamilnadu Vetinary University. Many of the Tribal women and youth have been empowered to meet their issues and challenges.

The CHAHA(Children affected by HIV/AIDS) project came to a close out since March 2011. A new challenge has been emerged to the organization to provide sustainable care to the children already supported under CHAHA project. Our organization continues its mission to support these children by mobilization of local resources. I take this opportunity to one and all who have sponsored and supported our fund raising program Punerjeni on 19.03.2011 for the cause of these children.

I have pleasure to inform that as a result of our initiatives in providing Care & Support to the people and children infected by HIV /AIDS, Karl Kuebel Stiftung, Germany has granted a new project namely “ Care & Support and Prevention of HIV/AIDS Project, Pollachi (CaSP)”, yet another Major Project supported by BMZ during this current year for a period of 3 years.

I also take this opportunity to convey my sincere thanks and gratitude to all our well wishers, resource providers, partners and stakeholders for their support, encouragement and inspiration. My sincere thanks to Give India, Mumbai for their online resourcing for the children of Abhaya, support to deserted women and skill building to the children. I also wish to convey my regards to Make a Wish Foundation, who fulfill the wishes of our children with life threatening diseases.

My heartfelt thanks to Voluntary Health Services, Chennai,TANSACS, Karl Kuebel Stiftung, Germany, PWDS, Marthandam and Murugappa Chettiar Research Centre, Chennai for their generous contribution for carrying out our activities in the reporting year.

The Advisory Committee Members and Board of Trustees have been providing their whole hearted support, with their valuable guidance, suggestions and encouragements. I take this opportunity to thank all of them.

Last but not least I would like to thank each and every staff members of NMCT and the leaders of Community Based Organisations developed by NMCT, without whose support we would not have made the achievements and accomplishments over the year.

There are at present 11 self help groups, 6 youth groups and 5

children clubs, to organize different activities. Trainings on

capacity building, empowerment and entrepreneurship are

conducted to the women, youth and children to solve their social

issues and improve their economic status.

The self help groups support the community in organizing

livelihood interventions in farming , cultivation of medicinal

plants, manufacture of organic fertilizer, vermicompost and

other non-agricultural interventions such as goat rearing, cow

rearing, poultry, processing of Non Timber Forest Produces, Bee

keeping, etc. The beneficiaries are also supported through bank

linkages to add value to their existing entrepreneurship activities

which has improved their economic status.

Our organization has supported free issues of 130 Goats worth

Rs. 2,27,500/- and 125 Hens to the tribal families in association

with Tamilnadu Vetinary University of Tirupur.

Initiated in 2007, the ADIVASI development project,

continues to empower the women, youth and children. The

ADI project motivates the tribal women and youth to take

active part in the development issues of their community. The

programs also continuously attempt to build leadership among

women and youth and creates opportunities to get familiar with

contemporary issues.

The self help groups have now been federated as a Community

Based Organization namely ADI federation. Besides income

generation activities they also undertake social action programs

supporting for obtaining Community certificates ,Income

certificates ,Birth certificates, Tribal ID cards, Ration cards,

Government assistance for ANC & PNC, Old age pension,

Marriage assistance, Rural housing and conducting various

community programs. The ADI federation also build close

rapport with local panchayats, in order to fulfill their basic needs

such as water, electricity and road facilities.

The Tamil Nadu AIDS Initiatives program started in 2004 works to transform the lives of 1500 sex workers, liberating them from

poverty, exploitation and a myriad of health challenges. The TAI program endeavors to promote safe and responsible behavior

among over 1500 sex workers, Intensive activities are being taken to work with the marginalized groups such as Transgenders,

Kothis and male sex workers, to bring in them behavior change towards healthy living, thus reducing their vulnerability towards

HIV/AIDS.

Towards achieving a sustainable life to the HIV / AIDS infected and affected children

The CHAHA program focused to organize the children living with

and those affected by HIV/AIDS and provide them improve care

and support services including education, nutrition food,

treatment services and household supports.

The CHAHA project has been extended to 5 more blocks in

Coimbatore district during the current year 2010-11.

ABHAYA STUDENTS SHELTER

The Children Cared Under “ABHAYA” Roof

Abhaya Student Shelter is started for sheltering the children

affected by HIV/AIDS and other disadvantaged vulnerable

children to continue their education, have a regular nutrition

food and treatment services and more over enjoy their

childhood.

There are 28 students accommodated during 2010-11and

motivated for better education and health. Children enjoy a

homely life with the parental care by the home.

Much emphasis is given on their education and improving their

capacity and empowering them to face their issues. The daily

routines for education, health and nutrition food are taken care

of by the Abhaya Committee. The improvement in education,

and health is closely monitored. Parents meetings are conducted

monthly with a view to improve the standards of the children.

Supplementary education(Tution) is organized in the evening by

appointing a special teacher. Knowledge in English, Computer

and other skills such as dancing, music, drawing, craft and doll

making etc are imparted by the Germen volunteers. Special

medical treatments are provided to the children in case of

chronic diseases.

A new concept namely “Memory Box” has been introduced to

keep their memorable things, photos and documents. The

children are taken to exposure visits to places like Chennai &

Mysore to improve their general knowledge and also

entertained by picking them to circus shows, flower shows and

World Classical Tamil conference .

Festivals of Deepawali, Pongal, Ayudha Pooja and Christmas are

celebrated at the home involving the children.

Visitors To Home :

Many Donors and Philanthropists visit Abhaya home, interact

with our children, internalize their issues, needs and supports for

their cause. They also celebrate the birthdays and auspicious

occasions of their family members along with the Abhaya

children. They contribute for the education materials and basic

needs of the children.

Visitors from funding agencies and other NGOs appreciate our

initiatives and support for the development of the home.

The volunteers made the children more homely by conducting

their birthday celebrations and festival celebrations such as

Deepawali, Pongal and Christmas.

Redesigning the web site :

The volunteers showed their skills and expertise in fine tuning

and redesigning the organization's web site, to its best

standard.

Computer to the Abhaya Home Children. They also actively

involved in teaching games, music, drama, toys making, cycling

and New Year Greeting cards making etc.

In continuation of the stay of Ms. Laura and Ms. Kerstin during

2008-09 and of Ms. Laila and Ms. Tamara during 2009-10, Ms.

Charlotte and Ms. Katja have volunteered the Abhaya Students

Shelter from September 2010 to March 2011.

VIMUKTHA FEDERATION

Vimuktha continuously strives for empowerment of rural marginalized women through the self help groups.

825 members have been organized under 70 self help groups. Capacity building, skill building and entrepreneurship are all provided to SHG members as an on going process. The SHGs have their savings accumulated to Rs. 28,85,500/- as on March 2011 which provides for internal lending for the needy members.

Vimuktha Federation emerged from the child labour eradication project of Native Medicare Charitable Trust, continue to work for the rural and tribal marginalized women with lesser opportunities.

The volunteers put forth their expertise in the NMCT blogs of various projects, in addition to their excellent blog on BBP Volunteers Program.

The touching stories of 17 children sheltered in the Abhaya Home narrated by the volunteers in their documentation entitled “17 Children, 17 Lives & 17 cases” is a milestone in the history of Abhaya Students Shelter bringing out the living conditions of the underprivileged children.

Vimuktha provides health care to their members and their families by arranging Eye camps, General Health Camps, Blood Donation

Camps, HIV Test Camps, Polio Drop Camps etc. It also involves in social action programs by representing the grievances' of the

members with the Grama Sabha, preparation of BPL lists, inculcating savings habits among the members and conducting exhibition

and stalls.

Redressal of grievance of members by representation of federation. Sustainable livelihood among the families by close integration

with federation.

The members are rejuvenated by their participation in international women's day, World Aids Day, Deepawali and Pongal Day

celebrations organized by the federation. With the best advocacy and bridging relationship with Govt. Departments, Vimuktha has

supported in obtaining land pattas for 26 poor families, community certificate for 50 families, maternity assistance for 32 women

and ration cards for 65 members.

LIVELIHOOD FOR THE MARGINALIZED THROUGH BIO-TECHNOLOGICAL INTERVENTION

The marginalized communities of most backward class, scheduled caste and scheduled tribe women were trained in waste

management and natural resource management.

10 mushroom cultivation units with 120 beneficiaries, 3 Charcoal

promoted under NMCT – MCRC project.

Mushroom cultivation has been promoted among the SHG

members as an Income Generation Program.

The beneficiaries by experience have now become trainers to

other members in the village.

They also engage themselves as resource persons to other NGOs

Women from tribal, slum migrants, PLHA and transgender participated in the training program. The trainees learnt sewing,

servicing of machines and cloth cutting. The training program has helped them in getting a sewing machine free of cost and

earn for themselves by tailoring, servicing of machines and teaching sewing to other members of the village.

Funded by APAC-VHS, the Tamilnadu Aids Control Society, Chennai has entrusted the blood sample collection from 7 Districts

(Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Dharumapuri, Krishnagiri and Vellore). The Blood samples of sex workers are collected in

the master health checkup camps by the Taluk level centers from the NGOs in the local area and handed over to the district

medical centers.

In turn NMCT collect the blood samples from the District Head Quarters Govt. Hospitals and handover to the Govt. Hospital,

Chennai.

3. BLOOD SAMPLE COLLECTION :

Sugars Ltd., New Delhi through their sister corporate M/s.

Usha International Limited has represented NMCT that it is

desirous of reaching out to remote villages by promoting Usha

Silai Schools with the aim of empowering village level women

entrepreneurs to teach sewing to women within the

community.

As NMCT has already been in the frontline for supporting the

women under BPL, slum migrant women and tribal women,

they accepted the proposals of Mawana Social Services and

accordingly NMCT arranged training for 15 women in the first

phase.

OTHER PROGRAMS

1.MAKE A WISH PROGRAM :

Make a Wish Foundation fulfill the wishes of the children with life threatening diseases by gifting them of their choice.

The Coimbatore Chapter of the Make a Wish Foundation identify some beneficiaries from the NMCT CHAHA Project and offers

them free gifts.

During the function on 09.08.2010 at Hotel Jenny Club, Coimbatore, Make a Wish Foundation fulfilled the wishes of 15 children

from our CHAHA project by gifting cycles, caramboards, electronic games and book shelf.

2. CHILDREN'S DAY - Child Rights Program at Alliance, New Delhi

As the CHAHA project comes to a close from March 2011, Alliance, New Delhi called for a meeting of the Project Coordinators, Stakeholders and Beneficiaries of the CHAHA project to protect the rights of the children sustainably.

In the function held at New Delhi on 12.11.2010, Mr. B. Rajendran, Project Coordinator, Ms. Sunandha and Ms. Nandhini, participated on behalf of NMCT CHAHA Project and explained the status of the CHAHA beneficiaries.

3. Annual Day Program

The Annual Day program of NMCT was conducted on 13.09.2010

AT Hotel Annamalai, Coimbatore. The Stakeholders, Donors,

Volunteers and the Alumni Staff of NMCT who have supported

the activities of NMCT have been recognized and honoured on

this Day.

The activities of the organization since 1992 have been shared

among the Stakeholders and Donors. They made valuable

deliberations and suggestions on further development of the

organization.

Dr.E.S.Krishnamoorthi, Former Director of APAC-VHS and

Dr.P.Krishnakumar, CEO-Nehru Group of Institutions

participated in the Annual Day program and appreciated

the service activities of NMCT over Two Decades.

It is a honor for NMCT to be adjudged as the Best NGO for Weltwarts Volunteers Program and Ms. S. Seethalakshmi has been

awarded as the Best Mentor.

4. KKS – Major Project Holders Meet and Weltwarts Volunteers Workshop

The Major project holders meet of KKS was held at KKID on 26 & 27.10.2010. Around 30 NGO Directors all over India participated in the meet. Mr. A.S. Sankaranarayanan, Managing Trustee, represented our organization and deliberations made on the new proposal of Care and Support Project, Pollachi.

The Weltwarts Volunteers Workshop was conducted from 28.10.2010 to 30.10.2010 and represented by Ms. Seethalakshmi, Trustee and Mentor. Our Organization has been awarded as “Best NGO” for Volunteering and Ms. Seethalakshmi has been awarded as the “Best Mentor”.

Face trust Coimbatore has organized a children's get together at Kopanari on 9-1-2011. Around 100 children from Tribal

community and Abhaya Children participated in the program.

The children had discussions on their future education, their dreams and also their problems. Face trust conducted various games

competitions and distributed prizes to the winners and also hosted a nice lunch for the children.

7.Red Ribbon Express Program

An Express train depicting the IEC materials, exhibits, banners

stationed at North Coimbatore Railway station propagating

awareness on prevention of HIV/AIDS. The programme was

2.INDEPENDENCE DAY

The VIJAKS Narpani Mandram, Coimbatore has sponsored the

Independence day Program 2010 at Marappa Gounder Kalyana

Mandapam, Thudiyalur. The members of the Vijaks took much

initiatives in organizing the Independence day by conducting

games, competitions and gifting the children.

Mr. Ramalingam, President, Somayampalayam Panchayat,

presided over the function and Mr. Atchaya Arumugam,

Chairman, All India Iyyappa Seva Sangam, Coimbatore hoisted

the National Flag, in the colourful Independence day on

15.8.2010. Dr.B.Mohamed Ali.Dist Program Manager, DAPCU

and Mr.T.P.Subramaniam, President. Thudiyalur Town Panchyat

have felicitated the social activities of NMCT. Over 300 children

along with their parents and other stakeholders participated in

the function.

The Vijaks President Mr. Vignesh, Secretary Mr. Keerthi and the

members Mr. Vaidhyanathan and Mr. Saravanan felicitated the

initiatives of NMCT and offered contributions of Cupboards and

Computer Tables.

Dr. Mohamed Ali, District Program Manager, DAPCU,

Coimbatore, Dr.K. Mahadevan, Head, STD Dept., CMC Hospital

and many well wishers felicitated the function.

Educational Supports namely cash contribution under Join

Hands scheme, and Notebooks, School Uniforms, School Bags

were distributed to around 200 children by the dignatories.

The Rojakootam Day was concluded with the colourful cultural

program by the Abhaya and Chaha children.

The Rojakootam Day 2010 was conducted in a grand manner for contributing education supports to 200 children. Mr. T.P.

Subramaniam, President, Thudiyalur Town Panchayat presided over the function and Mr. C.S. Vaidhyanathan, Senior Counsel,

Supreme Court, New Delhi was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

There was a gathering of around 500 audience including stakeholders, beneficiaries and their parents.

Lions Club of Tirupur Knit City, NMCT and Tirupur Sewa Samithi jointly organized the Deepawali day celebrations in a grand manner

on 31.10.2010 at Tirupur Sewa Samithi Hall, Tirupur.

Over 500 children infected /affected by HIV /AIDs participated in the celebrations. The program was inaugurated by Mr. K. Selvaraj,

Mayor of Tirupur in the presence of Lion MJF. M. Jeevanandam, Past Dist. Governor, Lions Clubs International District 324 B1.

It was a great gesture that Lion MJF. M. Jeevanandam, Past District Governor contributed 300 Sarees to the tribal women and Lion

MJF Devadass contributed Bed sheets to 250 Tribal chiefs. Ln.Jayabalakrishnan, Ln.K.Kalichamy and Ln.Ramanathan have co-

ordinated the Program with the NMCT Team.

5. PUNARJENI – FUNDRAISING PROGRAM

In view of the close out of the CHAHA Project from March 2011 and with the objectives of sustainable Care and Support to the

children infected / affected by HIV/AIDS hitherto supported under Chaha project, a fundraising program namely Punarjeni was

organized on 19.03.2011 at Corporation Kalairangam, R.S. Puram, Coimbatore.

6. CaSP PROJECT INAUGURATION The Care and Support & Prevention Project, Pollachi is yet another major project funded by KKS, Germany to support 750 HIV

infected families for over a period of 3 years in Pollachi North and South blocks.

The inauguration of the CaSP project was held on 21.03.2011 at NGM College, Pollachi. Dr. S. Murugaiyan, Vice President, NGM

College, Pollachi, presided over the function and Lion MJF. S. Paramasivam, Second Vice District Governor, Lion Clubs

International District 324 B1, Pollachi inaugurated and launched the new project.

The staff were motivated in mobilizing sponsorships and sale of

tickets. As a result of tireless efforts by the staff team and

Trustees, the program was conducted in a successful manner.

students performed a wonderful Fashion Show free of cost for

the cause of the underprivileged children.

The Dance program by Footloose was an excellent show

more publicity on the activities of the NMCT in support of the

children infected / affected by HIV / AIDS.

Ms. Cynthia Dittmar, Program Coordinator, Development Cooperation, KKS Germany appreciated the initiatives of NMCT in

providing Care and Support to the HIV infected families over the years.

Vijayamohan, Chairman, STC College, Pollachi, Dr. K. Mahadevan, Head, CMC College, Mr. Sundar Singh, Program Officer, PWDS, and

Dr.Bijo Raju, ART Medical Officer, CMCH, felicitated the initiatives and activities of NMCT in providing Care and Support to the PLHAs

and children infected / affected by HIV for over 8 years.

Two Kuebel Care Centres were also inaugurated, one at the project office and the other at Poosaripatti to provide counseling,

linkages and supply of medicines.

6. KKS- Bridge Builders Program

A five days training program on Qualitative Teaching and

Innovative Learning from 29.11.2010 to 3.12.2010 was

organized by KKS, Germany under the Bridge Builders Program

for the KKS partners.

Four participants from each of KKS partners namely Native

Medicare Charitable Trust-Coimbatore, Peace Trust- Dindukkal,

REAL Trust-Chennai and Goodshepherd Health and Education

Centre Karamadai were trained in Qualitative Teaching and

Innovative Learning.

The partner NGOs in turn will train the teachers of the local

schools in their project area in latest teaching technologies.
