Summary of Youth Crime Trends

• Total juvenile arrests are down since the 1990s

• Juvenile arrests for violent crime reached a 30-year low

• As violence dropped, arrests for other crimes increased

• Arrests for minor assaults, drug offenses, and disorderly conduct are all up significantly since the 1990s

• Drug arrests are now far more likely to be for possession rather than manufacture and sale
