PAGE 16OCTOBER 2018

Ahmad delivered the keynote address at a special reception held to mark the historic inauguration of the Nasir Hospital, a large-scale humanitarian project of Humanity First, an international charity established by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

800 dignitaries and guests, representing 20 countries attended the reception held at the hospital, located in Sacatepéquez, Guatemala.

e highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad during which he

emphasised Islam’s teachings of serving humanity, regardless of faith, caste or colour and outlined the reasons why the hospital had been built.

During his address, His Holiness noted that the event marked an

‘extremely significant and landmark occasion’

in the history of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community as Humanity First launched its first hospital in the Americas.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“is hospital has been built with purely one

PAGE 17OCTOBER 2018

intention and that is, quite simply, to serve humanity by providing high quality healthcare to the people of this nation.”

His Holiness said that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community had always sought to be

“on the very front lines of serving humanity”

and it was with this spirit that they had built the Nasir Hospital.

His Holiness cited the fact that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community had built many schools and hospitals in Africa where majority of the patients and students were non-Muslims.

Whatever humanitarian services the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community or Humanity First offered were given irrespective of a person’s religious beliefs, ethnicity or background.

He said the only motivation of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community was to alleviate the suffering of mankind based on the teachings of Islam.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“We seek no praise and no reward for our humanitarian efforts because we are merely doing what our religion has taught us to do.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad quoted chapter 3 verse 111 of the Holy Quran, which states that a Muslim is one who ‘enjoins what is good and forbids evil’.

Commenting on the verse, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Here, the Quran explains that true Muslims are people who promote goodness, stay away from evil and injustice and encourage others to follow suit.

PAGE 18OCTOBER 2018

Only a person who has a sincere love for humankind and feels the anguish of God’s Creation can be caring and sympathetic in the way the Quran desires. Such profound love for humanity is only possible if your heart is pure and free from malice and selfishness.”

e event concluded with a silent prayer led by His Holiness.

AMSA members should keep friends with positiveimpacts - Issa, Theologist and Computer Science Graduate.

After graduating as a theologist at Jamia Ahmadiyya College, Ilaro, Ogun state, Issa Oluwasegun Adebanjo garnered an Ordinary Diploma (ND) in Computer Science at Moshood Abiola polytechnic, Ogun State before obtaining BSc in Computer Science at the National Open University of Nigeria. In this interview with Ismail Rotimi Lawal, he talked about his reasons he studied theology and computer science, explained impacts of modern-day technology and revealed the keys to academic excellence.

May I know you?

My name is Issa Oluwasegun Adebayo, an indigene of Ogun state, Ijebu to be precise. I am a theologist and also a computer scientist.

Tell me briefly about theology and computer science?

eology is the systematic and rational study of concepts of God and of the nature of religious truths or the learned profession acquired by completing specialized training in religious studies, while Computer Science can be said to be the study of the theory, experimentation and engineering that form the basis for the design and use of computers. e latter also has strong connections to other disciplines. Many problems in science, engineering, health care, business, and other areas can be solved effectively with computers, but finding a solution requires both computer science expertise and knowledge of the particular application domain. us, computer scientists often become proficient in other subjects.

Why did you to study theology?

e reason why I studied theology was because I wanted to know more about the God I serve and to be able to educate people about religion.

Why is Computer Science important?Computing is part of just everything that touches our lives from the cars we drive, to the movies we watch, to the ways of doing businesses and governments' dealing with us. Understanding different dimensions of computing is part of the necessary skill set for an educated person in the 21st century.Basically, computing is indispensable for economy growth during this age.

What are the challenges facing this industry in Nigeria, and how can the challenges be addressed?Being a computer scientist is one of the best things that anyone can do for his or her future potential. However, the job market for

graduates is not strong at all and often discouraging.Another major issue in the industry is the technology that is developing every year. It is difficult to stay updated on all of the new technology options in Nigeria. To address this challenge, people, government and private organizations have to spend both time and money to stay updated with new technology. is is one of the best ways for people to take their career to a new level. In computer science industry, the best workers are people who continue to invest in their education after they graduate.

As a computer scientist, how can you serve Ahmadiyya Muslim Community with your skills?

Many thanks to Jama'at's ever versatile team who has been making it possible to ensure automation of some activities for easy access to the members. So I can serve the Jama'at by joining the team in occasions and sharing ideas that will continue adding values to the crews.

Who are your mentors and why did you choose them?My friend, Oginni Tosin Michael, is my mentor in my career. Calling him a genius will be an understatement. I feel like stealing those things from his brain. I have seen numerous, fascinating and excellent projects executed by this man.He has been so supportive to my own personal projects. I envy him, I must say.

What is your favourite colour and food? My favourite colour is white, and my favourite food is Eba with Melon Soup.

What are your forms of motivation?

In my disciple, Play Station (PS) motivates me. From the time of PS1, I have always been curious how those things works. When those players are running, throwing balls, kicking and referee decisions. It sounds funny, but people in the related field will understand better. It's my passion, my choice by heart. In the modern world we are now as well as in future, you will have a better life with fastest growing technology. In my life, I will say my Gold who is no other person than my mother. Each time, I think I must not let her down, I get motivated remembering her whenever I feel like relenting.

What is your relationship status? I am single.

Can you share with me a challenge you faced in school and how you overcome it?

It was tough from the beginning. ings used to be difficult somehow. So, I had to become more hardworking and prayerful; read and go extra miles.e major challenge was financial difficulties. God was actually in-charge. Honestly, I couldn't remember how I sailed through those difficulties.

How was your activeness in AMSA programme at school?

Actually, we had challenges operating within the school premises; we tried fighting it but to no avail. Two members who happened to be lecturers also tried but it didn't work. So, all our operations were

off-campus. We held Annul Propagation Week (APW) once during my tenure.I believe you must have seen things you would like to change to better the world.

If you are given a chance to make one thing right in the world today, what will that be and why?

I wish I had the power to stop the old ones from running for political offices and established full implementation of "not too young to run" bill. When we were small, we were told we are the leaders of tomorrow. Today is the tomorrow and those people are still ruling.

What advice do you have for AMSA members Nigeria?

AMSA members should keep their beliefs in God and His Prophets. ey should always pray for his divine guidance. Members should pray for His Holiness and write to him regularly.en believe in yourself, there is no limit to what you can achieve.I encourage AMSA members to keep their circle small and keep friends that can help in achieving your dreams and make positive impacts in your life. Learn at least a new thing every single day and make sure you are making an impact in people's life directly or indirectly. Lastly, members should always remember that a minute lost can never be regained. Use your time wisely. ey are deposited into our lives daily whether we utilize them or not, they expire on a daily basis and new deposit will be made the next day.
