I t s eems the pr inter r an off the f i r s t 142 pages a t a n incorrect value of the reduction ratio; thus the binding holes cut into the information on those pages. We refused to accept these defective pages and the job i s being re-printed; barr ing further troubles, we expect to mai l the Log within a day o r two of the mailing of th is i ssue of DX NEWS. After a l l of the t ime, ca re , and effort that went into the preparation of the copy for the new Log, we're not about to accept substandard printing! I was entered i n the Wiendly IM Cmtest" & sent i n three farms, for a t o t a l of 228 points; but would have been minus-six on the t h i r d form without t h e Rules change regard- unoccupied frequencies. It was a good type of ccntest, & kept up rqy in teres t in the h6bby. I made up an rxtensive list of s/on & s /offs & skeds of s ta t ions heard & sent it t o R. J. Mmunds on 4 h . I am assuking it w i l l be used i n the new HRC Log, i f it is ever published. I notice from t he sample in the 6/6 nX REWS t ha t t h e Mexico, C.A. b Caribbean s t a t i m s w i l l not appear in it. In between cathedrals cas t les & ancient vil lage inns, I tuned t h e d i a l s of my t rans is tor & the car ra- d io i n W l a n d , Wales, Eire, North Ireland, & Scotland. Not since t h e years 1943 -4-5 Rave I enjoyed TAs i n iny bacl?,?ard! I n SE England, daytimers besides the lo- ca l s include BBC-1088-1457-692-1052-881; Belgim620-926; Holland-746-1007; France -1403-1376-863. R. Nordsee-1232 is, a s you know, severely jammed. veronica-1562 good signal, i sn ' t . BBC & France both heard on 1484, & Crowborough-I295 is local. NE of Londm more Dutch, B lg ian & sane German s ta t ions make it days. In the W. the continent is weak (dws) but ~ th lme-566 makes it well, & i n the North Wales area, & a l l the way t o Dublin, Manx Radio-1295-1594 i s ~ o o d . O f course i n uQ~, there are only two frequencies: 566 which is good thrwzhout the island, & in some parts, the only s t a t ion heard days; & 1250 ( b b l i n & Cork) which is strant: only in those areas. Midway between Dublin & Cork it i s i n t e r e s t i ~ t o hear these synchronized XRs i n t e r f e r i w w/each other. INTERNATIONAL WATERS (HOLLAND). Radio Nordsee tested briefly on 1385 kHz but returned to 1232 on June 30th. The British jamming of Nordsee i s costing $1680 per w e e k p l u s a n additional $1200 for security guards a t the jamming stations to guard against possible violence by pirate radio supporters One of the jamming stations is reportedly a 1, 000 kw scatter t ransmit ter formerly used by NATO and operating a t much reduced power. Nordsee left
the a i r on July 23rd and resumed operations on the evening of the 24th f rom a new position off the coast of Holland. The owner of the station admits that the jamming has been effective and that incoming advertising revenue has been substantially reduced since the jamming began. IRAQ. Baghdad Radio has recently introduced a number of new programs with names such a s "The Voice of the Masses", and the "Voice of the Arabiail Gulf". The la t ter i s not to be confused with the "Voice of the Gulf", the station Sharja station on 737 and 1250 kHz.

The o r i g i n a l p roposa l was made i n 1966, bu t t h e n i g h t p a t t e r n d id n o t meet t h e FCC's e f f i c l e n c y requirements . Nobody no t iced . however. and it wasn ' t u n t i l the towers were up t h a t I t was r e a l i z e d t h a t t h e system e f f i c i e n c y wasn ' t going t o make It. WNEW appealed t o t h e FCC f o r a n e f f i c l e n c y waiver which was gran ted and under which they w i l l be permanently opera t ing . The FCC accepted WISN1s proposa l on 8/15/67. WDGY I n Minneapolis proposed a n l n c r e a s e t o 50 KW n l n h t w i t h a new p a t t e r n . u s i n g t h e same b a s i c 9 tower a r r a y they use now wi th t h e l r n igh t - time 25 KW.
