Way Forward
Regional Steering Group (RSG) established

Work plan finalized to achieve the implementation goals of the Regional Strategy in order to improve statistics (population and social) in Asia and the Pacific
2 workshops were held targeting 14 sectors of the Samoan government to identify all key data requirements from these sectors as indicated in their existing planning documents
Deliberate on the most appropriate way forward for Samoa to fully adopt the generic tool, clearly outlining all data requirement Samoa wish to meet for national monitoring and regional/ global reporting

Identify Gaps
Case Study (Community Sector Plan)
▪ Disconnection between the Narrative part of the policy and the corresponding logical framework (indicator framework)
1. Policy Action/ Issues for Action reflected in logical framework only
2. Policy Action/Issues for Action reflected in the policy narrative only
Eg. Community Sector Plan include the narratives discussing the need to address children with “disabilities”, “come from poor families”, and “live in remote areas”, but these levels of disaggregation aren’t captured in the indicator matrix which focuses mostly on just gender
Determining the Issues for action and the Target group if the policy specify these information
Identifying the correct indicator identified in the policy as well as choosing the correct Core Concepts
Matching the indicators from the policy with the National policy (SDS)
Mapping with international/regional indicators
Most importantly, we learned that all policymakers and data producers must stop working in isolation, but work collaboratively as a “team”. The days of the blame game is over!
Aligning Sectors Indicators with international policies such as SDG framework and many other important framework (Incheon Declaration Indicators for Education
Need to have a better understand of the policy that is under reviewed or assessed
Sectors that are on the process of developing new sector plans are urged to use the EPIC tool to assess and review their plan in order to address data disaggregated issues as making sure that all policies are well connected with available statistics
Strong collaboration with all the sectors in in assisting Sector Coordinators with the EPIC
SBS to actively participate in reviewing and developing of new Sector Plans
Thank you for your attention
