RHINO SYSTEMS LTD OFFSHORE ESCAPE TUNNELS

Applications:

• Offshore wall Panels• Cross – deck walls on

FPSO’s and FLNG• Escape tunnels• A, H & J rated

Design basis, standards and verification:

• ISO 19903• Fabig Technical Note 5 (stainless

steel blastwalls) applies also for carbon steel (referenced in ISO 19903)

• Eurocode 3• SDOF and code check and added

dynamic explicit NLFEA (LSDYNA or ABAQUS)

• Design verification by classification society LR, DnV, ABS

Buckling modes with trapezoidal profile that are avoided or postponed with arch profile:

• Design verification by classification society LR, DnV, ABS

• Double carcass construction with ceramic fibre insulation between the two. • Light weight duplex stainless steel outer carcass has with arch profile walls and stiffened

plate roof and bottom.• RHS ring frames at supports.• Inner truss for carcass support when H/J rated fire softens outer carcass.• Strong support bearing system to cater for uneven blast and fire loads.• Expansion joints every 20-35m• Strong through draft of exhaust air from accommodation keeps interior cool.

Carbon steel

Zone of interest for load bearing bulkhead walls 500-700C, generally needs PFP

Zone of interest for non-load bearing corrugated blastwalls 800-1100C, hence PFP generally not required

Features

• Used for blast 0.5 to 4 bar (7 to 60psi), spans up to 14m (45ft)• Fire resistant• Carbon steel S355 or duplex stainless steel • Widely used offshore UK, Norway, Azerbaijan, SE Asia and Australia• Ductile bending capacity to ductility ratio 3 or more thinner, lighter

weight wall allows economic use of duplex stainless steel• Bi-directional option offered• Compliant supports with controlled moment carry over to deck

simplifies deck design • Corrugated blastwalls typically have half the depth of bulkhead walls

(space saving) and are lighter
