National Honor Society Meeting
December 1, 2015
Community ServiceStarting Spring Semester
• Service hours not promoted by NHS must be approved by Mrs. Taylor or Mrs. Wilson
• Majority of service through church must serve the outside community• Running sound booth or nursery, etc. will be limited to 4 total hours
• Use new Service Hours sheet• Download from NHS website• Attach old sheet to back of new sheet
Penalties for Not Showing Up to a Service Event
• Extra service hours will be added on to the required 30 hours
Keep your commitments!!!
Exceptions include: illness (flu, bronchitis, strep, etc.), unforeseen club activities, extenuating family circumstances
CONTACT MRS. TAYLOR OR MRS. WILSON IF YOU MEET ONE OF THESE EXCEPTIONS
National Honor Society Pillars• Scholarship: current members, cumulative GPA of 3.5
• New members, cumulative GPA of 3.75 (weighted or unweighted)• Service: voluntary contributions to community• Leadership: leaders are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea
contributors• Character: students of good character are cooperative, demonstrates high
standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others, maintains a clean disciplinary record
Hours and Hours Sheets
30 Hours
Limit of 10from school service
Remaining 20From community service
Limit of 2 hourshelping teachers in classroom Service outside of your
comfort zone is encouraged!
No more than 10 hours from any one activity
Service at your church needs to be community based. No more than 4 hours can be counted for service within your church (i.e. nursery, sound booth, etc.)

• Bell-RingingMultiple slots available from 3-8 @ Reasors at 71st and Lynn Lane, sign up with Mrs. Wilson or Mrs. Taylor after meeting or stop by B266 or A208
Upcoming Events
• Creekwood Christmas-volunteer to purchase inexpensive gift for kids in need at Creekwood Elementary, participate in Christmas party during 6th hour on Dec. 16
• Tulsa Wellness Center Angel Tree-volunteer to purchase gifts for elderly residents, maybe participate in their Christmas party
• Trash PickUp-organized by Matt Riera and Erik Smithe, pick up trash around campus

ACT Prep Class• Date: Saturday, Dec. 5• Location: Broken Arrow High School• Time: 9am to 4pm• Cost: $15• Goal: to help students prepare for the ACT
