NFYT is not just about watching shows. For all participatingyouth theatre groups it’s also about coming together, learningnew skills, taking risks and discovering why making andperforming theatre matters.

Featuring a series of creative workshops including devising,circus skills, dance and a capella singing, you can expect to seesome wild and wonderful things happening in the Rothes Hallsand throughout the Kingdom Shopping Centre all weekend!

Billy’s kestrel soars above the poverty, neglectand inevitable chaos of his life. Precious, hopeful,with an ache for freedom. We all need to flysometimes.

Firefly’s newly formed ‘Bird on the Wire’production company has been working togetherthis year to explore themes of pressure,expectation, risk and freedom. They findmoments of beauty in a harsh and unforgivinglandscape with this physical and emotionally-charged adaptation of Barry Hines’ classic andbrutal tale.

Do we really want what we want? Who decides what we need? Where is theline between reality and a dream?

Mirrors presents a series of school-based vignettes. Examining the peoplewho make the choices which most impact on us, it creates a portrait of youngpeople’s expectations.

Brunton Senior Youth Theatre is an eclectic celebration of aspiring youngthespians from East Lothian. They are enthusiastic and professional in theirapproach and sympathetic to their material.

Are you a pink fluffy unicorn or a Spiderman loving Jedi?Boy or girl or other?Does it really matter?Let’s talk about gender baby.

Lab Station’s production of I am what I am employs pop culture andtechnicolour visuals to dissect and disclose our contemporary relationshipswith our expressions of gender.

Lab Station is Platform’s weekly youth theatre workshop for 12-18 year olds.It provides its members with regular performance opportunities andworkshops with professional theatre companies.

ACT DAFT!Directed by Marie Skene

A look at the consequences caused by a group ofyoung people just “having a laugh”. Devised by thegroup based on their own experiences and thechallenges they have faced on public transportwhen travelling with other young people.

Act Daft is a youth theatre for 12-18 year oldsbased at Act Aberdeen. The group was establishedin 2010, and has taken part in NT Connections, theAberdeen International Youth Festival,Word festival and the Mental Health Scotland artsfestival.

'What is essential is invisible to the eye...'

Adapted by the company from the novel The LittlePrince, this ensemble production travels fromelephant-eating boa constrictors to a desert with asecret, and stars which ring. Journey with us and alost boy searching for a friend…who knows whatwe might find?

Dundee Rep Youth Theatre is made up of 400children and young people who meet every week tolearn, share, play, laugh, challenge, inspire and beinspired.

“As far as the gay issue, I don’t give a damn as long as they don’t bother me.”

In 1998 Matthew Shepard was beaten and left to die in Laramie, Wyoming.Interviews with town residents were conducted to create this play whichexamines the impact of this shocking crime and what it means to hate.

Since 2010 APA Youth Theatre has been creating theatre which challengesits participants and audiences. Our theatre is relevant to young theatre makersand ambitious.

The HomecomingSunday 6 July I 8.00pm – 9.00pm I Main Auditorium

RE:LOCATION 2014 INTERNATIONAL YOUNG COMPANYDirected by Nathalie Forstman

28 young people from seven different European countries departedindependently on an expedition of uncertain outcome. They examined theirroots, pondered their future and sought after a collective and a personalplace they could call ‘home’.

Four days ago they came together for the first time. What happened?Culture-shock? Home-sickness? The travel bug? Identity crisis?

The results may come as a surprise…

RE:LOCATION is an international youth theatre projectco-founded by Youth Theatre Arts Scotland and theRogaland Teater, Norway. It celebrates excellence inyouth theatre and transforms young lives throughcreative and cultural exchange.

About

Every two years – each time in a different host nation – talentedyoung people and professional artists from across Europe cometogether in a unique multinational collaboration. Scotland isproud to be hosting RE:LOCATION for the first time in 2014 andwe’re delighted to welcome the following international partners:

28 young participants from these youth theatre groups formedthe RE:LOCATION 2014 International Young Company. Livingand working together under the guidance of an inspirationalartistic team they have explored individual and collective notionsof ‘home’. Their newly-created piece of ensemble theatre,The Homecoming, is designed to demonstrate the ambition,relevance and quality of contemporary youth theatre practice.

RE:LOCATION provides an international platform to showcaseyoung talent and ideas. It celebrates the creative and socialpowers of youth theatre arts and is a best practice exercise ininternational partner working.

The project allows young participants to:

work with professional European artists to deviseand perform a new piece of ensemble theatre

take part in a multinational creative exchange –workshopping, performing, learning and making friendswith other young people from across Europe who allshare a passion for youth theatre

and it allows professional artists to:

represent their country’s youth theatre sector withinan international collaboration

share and develop their artistic practice with internationalcolleagues

establish new international partnerships

increase their knowledge and understanding of bestpractice in youth exchange
