“Special Organized Stuff” … for Heirs

• Estimate Potential Estate Tax and Settlement Costs

Retirement Issues

• Written retirement goals

• Completed timeline analysis

• Review of retirement trends

• Analyze health care and advanced directives, long term care, health insurance

• Written action plans

Transition Planning

• Identify strengths & weaknesses of the operation that will affect succession of the farm

• Identify what you hope to accomplish through Succession Planning

• Outline a Succession Plan

• Understand differences in business organizational entities

• Learn safe techniques for farm tasks

• Learn how to do a hazard assessment

• Identify resources for assistance

• Identify the essential elements of a basic lease agreement

Class details

• Based on 12 hours of instruction (usually 4 sessions)

• Can be taught via interactive tv, but important to have specialists/educators at each site for discussion and to answer questions

• Market classes early through media and local agribusinesses

• Opportunity to partner with Extension Human Environmental Sciences Financial Specialists, and local professionals

• Fee - $60 per person or $75 per farm

• Evaluation / Impact

• All Extension specialists/educators are being highly encouraged to show impact and results of their teaching. This curriculum has built in evaluation tools.

Future

• The curriculum is online and we continue to make updates (that are dated) and plan to keep the site going for at least the next three years, then it will be reevaluated.
