9. International
a. EU commission has proposed extension in travel restriction up to 15
June for non-EU nationals to contain the spread of COVID 19.
b. US Vice President’s press secretary at White House has tested
positive for COVID.
c. First Child death related to COVID 19 inflammatory syndrome has
been reported in US.
d. Food and Drug Administration US has given approval to Biotech Company
to begin its next phase testing on COVID vaccine.
e. Japan has approved antiviral drug Remdesivir for COVID treatment.
f. Italy has become third country in the world to report 30,000 deaths from
COVID.
g. Russia has extended COVID lockdown of Moscow up to end of May.
h. Chinese President has offered support to North Korean leader Kim
Jong Un in fight against COVID.
i. Brazil Economic Minister has cautioned that there would be severe
shortage of commodities in Brazil if lockdown is allowed to continue.
j. US President has stated that COVID-19 will go away without a
vaccine and expects US death toll to rise to 95000 or more.
k. US has blocked UN resolution on global COVID-19 ceasefire.
10. National
a. MoFA stated that more than 100,000 Pakistan nationals await
repatriation due to non-availability of sufficient quarantine facilities at
provincial level.
b. Foreign Minister has launched a digital platform for discussion on
COVID that would host discussions with intellectuals, academics and
researchers around the world.
c. Sindh Government has stated that a 400 bed hospital will be
established to deal with infectious diseases.
d. PM stressed upon the need for out of the box solutions to meet
present day economic challenges in wake of COVID pandemic.
e. EU has offered Pakistan USD 163 Mn aid to Pakistan to fight COVID.
f. You Tube has offered Pakistan 5 Mn USD to fight against COVID.
g. WHO has stated that Pakistan’s testing capacity has increased up to
16000 tests per day.
h. Minister for Information and Broadcasting has said that lockdown will
have to be re-imposed if precautions are not followed.
