CAPACITY FINDING
Truck Parking Study - Goals• Identify and support the corridors of
greatest need for statewide significant.
• Provide guidance/direction relating to districts needs assessment and implementation.
• Provide funding to implement the consensus based solutions to enable implementation.
• Provide guidance / explore policy direction on topics such as: re-designing rest areas in urbanized areas, re-purposing underutilized park-and-ride lots for permanent or even temporary use, and P3 opportunities.
Short-Term Solutions: “Low-Hanging Fruit”• Encourage drivers to use additional parking at weight stations,• Work with the Maintenance Office to add more truck parks at rest
stops during construction, and• Capitalize on gray-fields.
Long-Term Solutions: Statewide Study/GPS Data Application
• Truck GPS data computes key metrics per location:1. Number of parked trucks2. Illegally parked trucks
• Analysis outcomes drive local, regional and statewide initiatives.• Derived inferences identifies potential innovative solutions.

Survey Summary
• Nearly 80 percent of respondents indicated that it is NOT easy to find truck parking in Colorado compared to other surrounding states
• Respondents found truck parking to be slightly easier to find when seeking to take required 30-minute breaks
• Most long term (67%) and short term (59%) parking stops occur at private truck stops or shipper/receiver locations
• More than 80 percent of respondents take ½ hour or more to find acceptable long term parking
• The I-70 corridor west of Denver was ranked as the most difficult to find parking
• Free-form responses highlighted:• Difficult finding space to park when traversing Vail Pass• Need to keep rest areas open and add more, especially where there are few
private truck stops• Difficulty parking in cities
