Scholarship Information

Coca-Cola ScholarshipThe application is now open. Merit based scholarship. Applicants should have strong leadership skills, GPA 3.0, extracurricular activities, including community service. Scholarships range from $10,000 to $20,000.

• Applicants must apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org

NASSP/Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Aware Scholarship Program

• Ranging from $1000-$12,000 will be awarded 100 seniors from 50 states

• Winners are selected by leadership skills, academic record, volunteer work, etc.

Aware Scholarship Program • Students CANNOT apply;

must be NOMINATED by their high school.

• 1 student may be nominated per high school

• Nominees will be in 20% of their class

NC State University (College of Textiles)

• Ten $47,000 scholarships will be awarded to freshmen entering the College of Textiles each year. This scholarship will cover over 60% of the basic in-state cost of attending NC State University.

• Students interested in being NOMINATED for this scholarship please see Ms. Venega in Guidance. Deadline for prescreen application to Guidance in October 26, 2011.

UNC-Chapel Hill (The Thomas Wolfe Scholarship)

• Full undergraduate support for student writers. Complete information is available on the University’s website at http://englishcomplit.unc.edu/creativ/scholarships/tws.

• Deadline: November 1, 2011

Davidson College (John Montgomery Belk Scholarship)

• The Belk Scholarship recognizes and awards students of demonstrated superior intellectual and personal achievement and significant leadership.

• If interested see Ms. Venega in Guidance.

Davidson College (John Montgomery Belk Scholarship)

• Up to 8 scholars will be chosen in Davidson’s Class of 2016, each receiving an annually renewable scholarship equal to the college’s fees (valued in 2011-12 at $49,723.)

• Deadline for prescreen application is Nov. 4, 2011.

Emory University (Atlanta Georgia)

• Merit-based scholarships are available for students who are interested in attending Emory University.

• NOMINATION REQUIRED• Deadline: November 8, 2011

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Program

• The Horatio Alger Association of distinguished Americans is dedicated to the simple but powerful belief that hard work, honesty and determination can conquer all obstacles. Must submit an ONLINE application at www.horatioalger.org

• Deadline: October 30, 2011

To be eligible for this scholarship:

• Applicants must have strong commitment to complete a bachelor’s degree,

• Critical financial aid $50,000 or less, extracurricular activities

• GPA 2.0 • Resident/citizen of the U.S.

• The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program recognizes high school youth solely on the basis of volunteer work in their communities after September 1, 2010.

• Winners will receive $1,000, a silver medallion, and a paid trip to Washington D.C.

• 4 year scholarship includes full tuition, room, a grant to 4 summer experiences that will develop leadership skills, social awareness, and an international perspective

• Student of Excellence applications for ALL grade levels are available in guidance and are due back to the counselor on November 18, 2011.

BETA/ NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

• There will be a Beta/ National Honor Society meeting on October 11, 2011 in the media center. For additional information, see Ms. Demetrice in Guidance.

The ASVAB will be given on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 in the media center. Please sign up in guidance by October 10, 2011.

STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE

• Students if you are interested in Student Accident Insurance we do have the forms in the Main Office---Homeroom teachers also received a handout with a web-site so that you can go on-line and register.

• November 5, 2011 SAT Test is October 7, 2011. Late fee required date is October 8-21, 2011.

• December 10, 2011 ACT Test is November 4, 2011. Late fee required date is November 5-18, 2011.

• Students may register online for the SAT/ACT Test or pick up an application in Guidance.

SAT & ACT DEADLINES!

• If a student signs up for Driver’s Education and then drops the class, they must wait until all students have had a chance to take the class, before signing up again.

Listen Up!• If you’re not present the

first day of Driver’s Education you will not be enrolled on the second day unless you have a doctor’s note.

UNC Chapel Hill and would like to participate in the 11th Annual Native American Recruitment Weekend. Students should be in the top 25% of their class and have a desire to attend a 4-year college.

and the availability fills fast, so go by guidance and sign up with Ms. Karen before October 12.

• Seniors interested in taking the compass test for any Community College in the state of NC need to sign up in the guidance office. The first 23 students will be tested on February 7, 2012 @ 8:30am. Transportation will be provided to RCC. For additional information, see Ms. Venega in guidance.
