NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS - GREATER CORPUS CHRISTI is planning a city-wide RIBBON CAMPAIGN for May is Mental Health Awareness Month! NAMI Greater Corpus Christi is a 2-year-old affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of all individuals and families affected by mental illness. With national offices in Arlington, Virginia www.nami.org , there are over 1,100 affiliates across the country. NAMI Greater Corpus Christi offers free support groups for individuals and families, as well as education courses for families and friends, and a monthly Speaker Series. There are 29 NAMI affiliates in Texas, with our headquarters in Austin, www.namitexas.org . Our members are families, friends, and people living with mental health conditions such as major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, and borderline personality disorder. Weekly support groups and classes are led by trained facilitators with lived experience. NAMI Greater Corpus Christi is a non-profit, all- volunteer organization with no paid staff, www.namitexas.org/ngcc . Our Ribbon Campaign is to announce the month of May as Mental Health Awareness Month. It involves a city-wide display of large bows and ribbons imprinted with the NAMI logo and contact information for NAMI Greater Corpus Christi. This campaign will be proclaimed at city hall on April 24, 2018 with an address by the mayor. We are requesting groups to volunteer with supervision on April 28 and 29 for hanging the ribbons on designated trees, poles, storefronts and other visible locations across the city. Volunteers will monitor the condition of the ribbons throughout the month and help with removing them on June 2 and 3, 2018. FIRST PROGRAM for this OUTREACH will be Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 10 AM to noon at First United Methodist Church, 900 S. Shoreline, room 223. A representative from each volunteer group is invited to this program and workshop. Drop in workshops with refreshments will be held every
