the paper. 1983 to 1989 The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta, GA. Assignments included:

Assistant City Editor (1987-1989) – Promoted to this position, which required supervision of several reporters dispatched to cover city government, politics, elections, etc.

Reporter (City Hall Bureau Chief) (1986-1987) – Promoted to lead reporter on the political beat and managed the bureau office based at City Hall; also covered Georgia congressional election campaigns.

Reporter (City Hall Beat) (1985-1987) - Covered city government, the mayor, city council and local elections.

Reporter (Police Beat) (1984-1985) - Covered the Atlanta police department, writing about crime, personnel and political issues related to public safety.
