ANNIVERSARY
BENEFIT A SUCCESS!The First Anniversary Benefit Dinner held at Holiday
Acres on February 4th was very successful. NATH
raised $4,141.00 for Frederick Place Operations.
Attendees were treated to music by the
Northwoods Brass Quintet who graciously donated
their talented services for the event. The Holiday
Acres staff provided a delicious buffet meal.
The Community Outreach and Fundraising
Committee received wonderful donations from
numerous area businesses and individuals. Theseitems were used for the Silent Auction, Bucket Raffle,
and Door Prizes.
The NATH Board is very grateful to Forth Floral,
Coffee Beans and to Trigs in Rhinelander and Eagle
River for assisting with the advance sale of tickets. In
addition, volunteers from Northwoods Newcomers
and Friends donated their time to help distribute
flyers, solicit donations, set up, serve beverages, clear
tables, and sell tickets. Several Kohl’s employees also
donated their time to assist with the dinner.
Thank you all for your support!

Faces of NATH
One of Frederick Place’s most colorful and
positive residents had his future all mapped
out, planning to move to Arizona in the next
couple months and hoping to make his fortune buying
abandoned storage units or mining for gold. Unfortunately,
things did not go as Ernie planned, due to circumstances
beyond his control.
He had been commissioned to do some remodeling work on a
house in town. Rather than getting paid, he was allowed to livein the house rent-free. One day, the owner decided the
remodeling work was done, although not complete, and Ernie
was told he had to get out. Now Ernie hadn’t quite planned on
heading south just yet as his significant other would not be able
to go with him for a couple months. Ernie had heard about
Frederick Place and he decided to check it out. That same day,
he became a resident. When “E-bay Ernie” moved in, both
residents and staff received an education on turning “trinkets
into treasures,” not to mention the ins and outs of listing and
making money on e-bay. Ernie was like a kid on Christmas
morning watching his items, waiting for bidding to end to
realize his profits. Watching “Storage Wars”, “Gold Rush” and“American Picker’s” became an evening routine for the
Frederick Place family. Current residents still can be seen
watching these shows but it’s not quite the same without Ernie.
There is a void and a lot of “Ernie this” and “Ernie that’s” being
said.
Ernie is now in Arizona, working to make his dreams come
true, making small profits here and there, never getting
discouraged. Who knows, maybe one day a resident will turn
“Storage Wars” and there will be “E-bay Ernie” sharing his
knowledge with the world just like he did at Frederick Place,
happily going through life, never discouraged, waiting for the
“big one”. [Names have been changed to protect confidentiality. Resident hasgiven permission to print his story.]

Frederick Place has been at or close to capacity thismonth. We currently shelter seven men, five women, and 3
children. Staff frequently receives calls for assistance and
we have established a waiting list for those seeking shelter.
Case management continues to be a key factor in
facilitating resident goals toward self sufficiency. Three
residents are currently employed and three have had
interviews in the past week. Two single moms and their
children have recently received housing assistance through
Forward Service and are expecting to move in March.
To date, Frederick Place has provided temporary shelter
for 111 individuals for 4421 shelter nights. Six have come
from Forest County, nine from Langlade, sixteen from
Lincoln, fifty-eight from Oneida, fourteen from Vilas, and
eight from other areas. Frederick Place has housed a total
of fifty-nine men, thirty-seven women and fifteen children.
The average length of stay has been forty days.
The NATH Board, Frederick Place Staff and the residents
sincerely thank all who contribute to the coninued
operation of our temporary, emergency shelter.
Volunteers don't get paid,
not because they're
worthless, but because
they're priceless.

Donate A MealGod gave my 8 year old son and I an opportunity to
spend time with colleagues, while enjoying a fantasticmeal with good company at Northwoods Alliance for
Temporary Housing (NATH), tonight. It was humbling tospend time with such fabulous people … It was even
more humbling to be able to share the opportunity withmy middle babe, who upon our travels to our home full of
things, had a tear in his eye. (A post on Facebook, posted with permission)
Listed below are the dates that are still available to
meal donors:
March: 3rd
April: 2nd
, 7th

Meal donors prepare and provide an evening dinner
for residents. Donors can prepare the meal in their
home or in the Frederick Place kitchen. They also may
choose to purchase a meal (such as pizza of sub

groups, and area businesses that donate an evening
meal on a regular basis. For example, Shady Sue
