President's message…

Ski shows are abound, pre-season deals on ski and snowboard equipment are at thestores, enthusiasm for the winter season is here, and yes, even snow is in the air. Itwon't be long before winter is officially here and snow is on the ground. I know I'mnot the only one excited about cleaning last year’s mud off the gear in preparation fora real snow season. Yes, my Dear Santa letter is only asking for a lot of snow thisseason.

Even though the busy holiday season isupon us, make time to read the club's on-line calendar and the monthly newsletterfor information on-the-snow activities, trips, and social activities this season. Asalways, look for details on the club's up-coming day trips this season. I'm sure Idon't need to tell you that the day trips sellout fast, so get your plans ready for timeon the slopes this winter season. The firsttrip is only about a month away. Also, theBanff trip leaders are looking to fill onespot for a male roommate. Contact the tripleaders if you are interested in the last spot.

Hopefully you didn't miss the November club meeting, as we had a superb guestspeaker. A special thank you to Rick from Little Mountain for speaking at the Novem-ber club meeting. Rick gave us a detailed presentation on ski and snowboard gear, with an emphasis on helmets and goggles. Stop by their store in Mentor for moreexpert advice. In December, don't forget about the club's annual White Elephant GiftExchange, and then in January, the club will get a special talk about the InternationalChildren's Games in Ufa, Russia. Keep checking back as the schedule solidifies for theremainder of the club meetings this season.

—Aaron

White Elephant Exchange at the December Club Meeting:Tuesday,December 4th

All you have to do to participate is bring a very nicelywrapped “white elephant” to the club meeting. The “white ele-phant” can be anything you've had in your closet that someoneelse could use or just a regift that you don't really want. So,you bring your gift; check in, get a number and place the gift onthe table. The number you get will determine the order in whichyou get to select another gift from the table during the ex-change. You open it, and then you get one chance to eitherkeep the gift or steal from one of the previous openers! Please join in on the fun thisyear.

Get ready for racing in 2013! The weekend race series schedule is on ourwebsite and the Wednesday night race schedule is on the flyer included in thisnewsletter.

The schedule for the weekend series is similar to last year, but with a fewtwists. We’ll kickoff the season at Kissing Bridge with a race on Saturday,January 5th. If conditions permit, rather than two Giant Slalom runs, the planis to have one run Giant Slalom and one run Slalom. There will be variouschanges to other races, mostly to start times in an attempt to shorten the raceday for everyone. Details will be E-mailed to the race team the week beforeeach race.

NEW this year, the race committee is going to tweet start times and raceday changes! Follow @RACINGCMSC on Twitter for all of the updates.

The current list of qualified racers is also posted on the website. Pleasewelcome experienced racers Don and Marilyn Lesinski to the NASA Ski team! Also, between seasons the race committee reevaluates racers to be sureeveryone is competitive in their class. This year there were three reevalua-tions. One was yours truly, who has been moved from BW to BBW. We haveseveral people interested in qualifying, so expect to see the roster grow thisseason.

Anyone is welcome to qualify for the weekend race series at either thequalifier at Boston Mills in the evening of Wednesday, January 2nd or at(almost) any regular race.

Contact myself or Mark Hyatt for details on either race series.
