his hasbeen anamazingy e a r .When I

accepted the Presi-dent’s position, it waswith some consterna-

tion given the calibre of those people who hadbeen president before me. However, knowing thequality of the board members and leaders of othercommittees around the club, I decided to give it ago.My confidence in those people proved wellfounded, and my experience as President of theNarre Warren Bowls Club has been positive andenjoyable. When I arrive at our club with the entrance, trimsand shelter sheds painted in our club colours, itlooks professional and welcoming. I am proud of what the club has achieved duringmy time as your President.I wish to thank the Executive and each memberof the Board for their commitment of time and theroles they played by making sound, and at timesstrong, decisions for the benefit of the club.So many members have contributed to the smoothrunning of the club, but I cannot let it pass withoutmentioning the tremendous efforts of PeterRouse as our Sponsorship representative. Peter, you were amazing; you changed the look and at-titude of the club by your efforts. Our bowlers had fantastic achievements in theCasey Bowls Division; out of our six pennantsides, three played finals and our Division Sevenside was promoted to Division Six.I shall leave the in-depth results to the relevantcommittees. One of the disappointments of the year was the

failure to have our alfresco area completed; at ouropening day for season 2014/15, it was announcedby Council that approval and funding were nowgranted. After many meetings and discussions, asyou are aware, this project has started, but is yetto be completed.I, with Secretary Reg, initiated and had discus-sions with Luke Donnellan, MP (State Memberfor Narre Warren North) regarding funding for theupgrade of our ladies’ and gents’ toilets. This willbe a long project before completion, but I am surethe incoming Board will continue to monitor theprogress to a satisfactory conclusion. The Board has appointed Mark Walker as ourgreen keeper; with Mark’s expertise, we now haveB green in top condition for bowling. In my timeat our club, it is the first time we have had two topgreens to bowl on; now it not only looks like abowling club, it is a bowling club. It is always dangerous to single anyone out; to en-sure I do not omit anyone, I shall make a captain’schoice and thank everyone who assisted in therunning of the club. You have all contributed yourtime generously for the benefit of our club. One of the main reasons I decided to not stand forre-election as your president next year is that mywife Lyn is now president of our Probus Club. Asshe has given me terrific support in my term ofoffice (at times a good sounding board) I believethe support is reciprocal, for I know that Lyn isgoing to be heavily involved in the running of theProbus Club.To the new Board and Committees, I take this op-portunity to wish you a successful season in2015/16 and I encourage you, the members, togive them your full support and encouragementthey deserve.Thank you

The Year 2014/15 has now come to a close and, asyour Club Secretary for the past 24 months, I wouldlike to express my thoughts and appreciation to theBoard, committees and club members for their totalsupport over this period

President Kerry and the Board: I feel in many wayswe worked extremely well as a team, although at timeswe did not always agree on everything we discussedor put forward, but that is how it should be when, as aBoard, we have to make decisions. And as those deci-sions were in the best interest of our club and the mem-bers, in this I feel that most of the time we got it right.

President Kerry came into the chair with an agenda ofimproving the appearance of our club with the paintingof all the outside sheds, fixtures etc in our club coloursand, to the amazement of all, it was a great success andhas been commented on by visitors and guest VIPsmany times. Well done, Kerry, and we are sorry thatyou have decided not to run again.

Geoff Miller, Club Treasurer. Hardest man to get adollar out of, but his only interest is our club and tomake sure that the financial side meets expectationsso we do not have to increase our fee structure abovea figure that we would lose members. I must remarkon the coordination of the solar last year by Geoff andthe effect that it has had on our bill over the past eightmonths. Even with paying it off, the bill has halved. Agreat job.

A few personal thank yous. I know there should bemany more, so please do not be offended because Icould use the total Membership List.

Club Communication Officer, Carl Lapham: A greatbackup and source of IT knowledge.

Micki Horton and Ray Pigdon. Thank you for yourwork on the diary (get ready for next year).

Bar Committee:Yes, we had ourproblems and IanBrotherton is not easy to replace as he did an excel-lent job over the past years. But, in time of need, theresponse from the people on the committee was out-standing. My thanks to Bill Brewster, Shirley Bell,Geoff Miller, Judy Naughton, Ray Pigdon andMicki Horton, who all put their hands up to ensureall functions’ and members’ needs were looked after;and to the new members who went to the RSA course,Iain and Wilma Stevenson, Eric Sydenham andErik Luyters. All looks good for the coming year.

Greens and Surrounds: Mark Walker has B Green upand running and it will be excellent next season. Also, the club has included in Mark’s contract the surroundsand hedges, and these will be trimmed three times peryear. To Ian, Andy, Paul and John, you have done agreat job in the past (time to have a rest).

Sponsorship Committee: Peter, Andy, John and Paulnever stopped trying to bring more sponsorships to theclub all year and were very successful in doing so asshown by the major events involving our sponsors. They were all very successful and could not have beenso without their efforts; we will need this effort andmore in the coming year.

The Catering Committee: From Opening Day on, andwhen called into action thereafter, never failed to pro-duce many excellent spreads so to Judy, Gail, Janice,Helen, Jill, Margaret, Sandra, Ruth, Pam, and allthe other women of our club - and several visitors -who all put their hand up many times to help on manyoccasions, we thank you.

Membership:Unfortunately the club lost several mem-bers, namely Graeme Manifold, Brad Potter, LeonBrown, John Hickman, Brenda and Stewart Proc-

Also thereare five new applications on the board for membershipand rumours of others.

Current Numbers are: Full Members - 113. Life - 3.Junior - 2. Social - 14

House: The committee of Glen Cadman, GrahamDodd, Luka Klarica, Len O`Brien and John Uren. These are the people who have kept our club roomsetc looking great.

And to all the Members who helped with the variousfunctions conducted, with hall hiring, Casey Disability, barefoot bowls groups and corporate challenge bowlsnights (catering girls, BBQ chefs and bowls coachesor just plain helpers, so many I could just about usethe membership list and I would hate to miss anyone)my sincere thank you.

But, look forward to the coming year as we are goingto try to make all of the above even bigger and betterand, with the same support as this year, I am sure thiswill happen

In closing, again I thank you all for the support thatyou have given me over the past two years and lookforward to the coming year

I am pleased to announcethat the club has had a verysuccessful year, and finan-

cially has ended up with a trad-ing surplus of $25,358.65. Notbad, considering we had adeficit the previous year. With all the functions held by vari-ous people, our hall hire and ancil-lary sales (bar sales, green fees etc),have helped to create a good cashflow, thereby allowing purchases tobe made without having to accessour banking account to a certain de-gree. The hall-hire role was ablyconducted by our Secretary RegJohnstone and assisted by variouspeople too numerous to mention. They know who they are and

please give yourselves a deservedpat on the back.

With sponsorship, Peter Rouse hasexcelled in making sales and in-creasing revenue; however, the fig-ures do not give a true indication ofwhat he has done. Some pf the ex-pense for signage etc has been deb-ited against the revenue.

Our solar panels are starting todefray the cost of electricity to alevel that is manageable, and willshow their true worth once paidfor.

The Bunnings sausage sizzle wasdown again this year; however, it isa worthwhile exercise as we didmake a profit of more than$1000.00. The site allocated to us

was farther away from the door;therefore traffic did pass us by.Many thanks to all who turned upto assist. Again, some people diddouble shifts to ensure the job gotdone.

In closing, I would like to wishevery member a successful2015/2016 season.

Treasurer’s Annual Financial Report1/4/2014-31/3/2015

The Selection Committeeworked extremely well as ateam over the course of the

pennant season and, as such, theclub was rewarded with some ex-cellent results for 2014/15.

Division 2 – After a great season, they finished fourth on the ladderand, in the first final, had to playthe top side, Mulgrave Country

Club. After a hard-fought game, wewere successful, then the followingday we played our arch-rivals,Hampton Park, for the section flagand who would go up to DivisionOne; but they just fell short at theend. A really great end to the sea-son.

Division 3 – Had a very mixed year, with some narrow losses, and itcame down to the last game of theseason to avoid regulation to Divi-sion 4. But, this was not to be, sowe will fight back next year.

Division 7 – An excellent seasonand, after several seasons of disap-pointment, finally made it to the fi-nals, and were unlucky not to winthe section. But, by playing off for

the final, they lifted the side to Di-vision 6.

Division 8 – A really big thankyou to all the players we ro-tated all year so we could en-sure all got a game. I know thiswas hard, but some weeks weredown to the bare numbers and, thanks to you, we never had toforfeit a game.

A very big thank you to Ray Pigdonfor the many hours he spent in pro-ducing the excellent reports andstatistics each week. And, to myfellow selectors, thank you againfor your support over the season.

COACHCOACH ’’SS TIPSTIPS

Welcome to April and Winter Bowls

During these months we should all be looking to ourfuture in bowling, whether it be social, pennant ortournaments. To achieve your particular goal, weharp back to my pet phrase PRACTICE, PRACTICEand more PRACTICE

To help you focus on your goals for the next ses-sion, find yourself a practice partner and arrange tomeet several times a week and keep a record againsteach other’s performance with your goals. As eachgoal is reached by constantly reaching 80 per cent ofeach task, send your results in a sealed envelope tothe selection committee for achievement reached, tobe opened at the start of next session

To help you achieve your goals you may wish to re-search a few bowler’s aid products that can help par-ticularly get you close to the jack, or take out anopposition bowl. A quick look on the internet willfind you the new bowler’s spectacles which can pickyour bowling line and give an audible report to thewearer as to the accuracy of the line. Likewise, thereis a new type of rubbing or polishing sleeve; whenused on jacks before each game, it has been tested onsynthetic greens and found to increase resting touchersby up to 35 per cent.

Looking at reports from the professionals, the mostadvanced product they all seem to be using is a prod-uct called WEIGHT POLISH. This is available inthree different grades for: 1) singles players. 2) mixedplayers. 3) pennant players.

It appears this product will be difficult to find due tothe unprecedented demand that is expected from allbowlers this winter; however, you may be lucky tofind it at: APRILFOOL PTY LTD, phone 0104 2015

REMEMBER, PRACTISE, PRACTISE, AND TRY THE ABOVE PRODUCTS TO IMPROVEYOUR GAME.

Ihad the privilege of playing in the PeninsulaCasey Bowls Region Triples at Swan Hillearlier this month. The process started with nominations from which32 ladies were selected. There was a trial dayscheduled for Mt Martha in January but at the lastmoment we were directed to Dromana as MtMartha’s green was affected by the heavy rainsfrom the night before. It was extremely windy andthe green was carpet - very tricky! From that trial,16 ladies were selected and played at Cranbournethe following week where the selectors had atough job in reducing the group to 13 - three teamsof four, plus an emergency. We had a couple of practice games before travel-ling to Swan Hill to compete alongside 15 otherregions, making 192 players in total. It was an early start on Wednesday morning with allplayers and officials gathering in their teams for theofficial welcome at 8.15am. It was a colourful sightwith all players marching on in their uniforms. Afterthe speeches it was down to business. We were in the same section as Wimmera, Central

Victoria and Ovens and Murray. Swan Hill - Mur-ray Downs has three greens, all of which are grassand running beautifully. We knew it wasn’t goingto be easy regardless of which teams we werematched against. We all played three games of 15ends - one on each green. Peninsula Casey startedoff well with two rinks up and one down in thefirst game, losing by only two shots. We stoppedfor lunch and then back out to play our next twogames. As is often the case when you stop for abreak you lose the momentum, and our secondgame saw us winning one rink and losing two, thistime by eight shots. Our third game saw all threerinks going down. The finals were played on Thursday with YarraRegion being runner-up to Northern Gateway, which have now won it for the past three years. We can only marvel at some of the brilliant bowlsthat were played in the final.Despite not being in the winning side, it was stilla very enjoyable experience and I hope otherNarre Warren ladies are nominated and are ableto participate next year.

Narre Warren Bowls Club must have the most related club in bowls.Pictured above are Jack Castricum, John van der Zwet, Cathy Pater,Pater Castricum, Truus Henneman and Peter Pater, all related, and

we have more members from the same extended family.

I wonder if any other club can beat it.

On 31 March we hosted 28 CFA members for some barefoot bowling. We have had some lovelypeople at our private functions, but these were just about the finest.

They thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and went out of their way to show their gratitudefor our volunteers on the night, who were: Pam and John Uren, Janis Dukats,

Philip Howard, Graham Dodd, Ray Pigdon and Micki Horton.
